There’s Something Seriously Shocking About the Plus-Size Clothing on Wish (Again)
Yikes x 2. There’s been another fashion fail on Wish.com, the budget shopping site that stunned the web last week with a listing for plus-size shorts that showed a model wearing them not as regular shorts, but as a strange type of mini skirt. While the offending post has been removed from the site (a message reading “this product is under content review by the Wish team” is up instead), there was plenty more to cringe at today. Multiple pieces of plus-size clothing had titles that included what-were-they-thinking descriptors like “fatter” and “fat.” Both have since been amended so that the offending words are gone but still…no good.
Coming off a year where so many fantastic strides were made in the plus-size industry (like mega retailers increasing size availability and jaw-droppingly stunning images being used for campaigns), it’s a shame that something so blatantly not okay is slipping by retailers unnoticed. We’re cheered to see edits have been made, but ideally the gaffe never would have been made in the first place.
In other news, hurrah for public faces taking a stand. Khloe Kardashian had some wise words about how women’s bodies are discussed, and up-and-coming model Barbie Ferreira wasn’t shy about revealing exactly which questions she’s sick and tired of hearing.
