12 Off-the-Shoulder Tops You Can’t Live Without This Spring

admin
257

We're celebrating springtime by baring a little skin. And what better way to show off your awesome sun-kissed skin (hey, no one has to know it came from a spray tan!) than an off-the-shoulder top? It's time to pack away that parka, strip off those wool tights, and give in to the power that is the warm weather season.

While this spring trend may not exactly be fit for the workplace, it's a weekend and after-hours staple this season, for sure. By showing off your neckline and shoulders, an off-the-shoulder top is sexy and flirty while still leaving enough to the imagination. Don't go too tight with this trend: The looser, bohemian look is the way to go. Dare we even suggest it's the perfect summertime top that will instantly put you in the music festival mood, but totally wearable once you leave your mosh pit days behind you? We think so! Whether you're headed to Coachella, or simply weekend brunch closer to home, channel your inner Bianca Jagger, Kelly Kapowski, or Kendall Jenner this spring.

For the weekend, this top looks best with denim or more casual bottoms, but some sexier and more tailored styles look equally amazing with a pair of trousers or date night mini. Go for everything from silk to cotton; dramatic shaped sleeves to short eyelet ruffles.

Don’t Let The Weather Get You Down: This Is How To Dress For Work When It’s Raining

admin
277

April showers are coming (and in some parts of the country, they're most definitely already here!), so it's time to start figuring out what that means for your wardrobe. It can be tricky enough getting dressed for the office every morning: finding something pretty, yet conservative; dressed-up, yet comfortable. But when you wake up to a torrential downpour outside your window? All bets are off. Those cute outfits you planned out before bed (or in your head as you fell asleep) are just not going to cut it anymore—at least not without a little bit of help.

While rainy weather may allow for a little leeway in the office dress code, sweatpants are still off limits—and you don't necessarily want to show up in your favorite linen suit, only to be soaked to the core once you reach your cubicle, either. From fashionable and waterproof outerwear to shoes that are a bit more rain-friendly, these are the tips, tricks, and outfit ideas you need to get through the rainy season in style.

The Trench:
Don't Let The Weather Get You Down: This Is How To Dress For Work When It's Raining
No matter what you're wearing underneath, make sure you're covered up with a rainproof coat. While trenches are the most classic option, and will take you from the office to drinks to a weekend stroll, there are also plenty of coated and water-resistant options in all of your favorite spring jacket silhouettes.

Rubber Boots:
Don't Let The Weather Get You Down: This Is How To Dress For Work When It's Raining
A great pair of rubber boots will have you wading through those puddles without a second thought. While the most effective pair are flat and knee-high, they require a quick change once you arrive at your destination. If you don't want to carry the extra bulk, try a pair of rubber ankle booties this spring—your coworkers may not even realize they're wellies!

Cropped Pants:
Don't Let The Weather Get You Down: This Is How To Dress For Work When It's Raining
Keep your trousers on the short end on rainy days. They won't drag on the wet ground and require little thought when you're jumping over puddles on your way to the office. Bonus? Whether they're slim pixie pants or wide-leg culottes, ankle cropped trousers are among the most flattering trends out there.

Dressed-up Denim:
Don't Let The Weather Get You Down: This Is How To Dress For Work When It's Raining
For the more casual office, today is the day to slip into a pair of jeans. They're no fuss and easy to style, especially when you know you're going to be hit with the elements once you walk out your front door. Just make sure to keep it professional with a blouse, blazer, and classic pair of shoes.

Classic Sneakers:
Don't Let The Weather Get You Down: This Is How To Dress For Work When It's Raining
For mild rain days, sneakers are a go-to. Though not fit for every office, the classic, white, lowtop is a huge trend for spring and there has never been a better time to break it out. Casual as these tennies may be, they bring a youthful flair to more conservative midi skirts and modern suiting.

A Statement Coat:
Don't Let The Weather Get You Down: This Is How To Dress For Work When It's Raining
A bright printed style is great for a rainy day—as long as it's not going to ruin the coat in question. It will not only take the focus off of whatever you're wearing underneath, but it will also be less likely to reveal small wet patches or rain droplet spots than a solid, neutral option.

9 Fresh Ways to Wear Black This Spring

The color black: We know it well and we love it with all our heart. While dressing in head-to-toe color is certainly not for the faint of heart, black will always work and always make you feel as though you're channeling your inner chic French girl. Not to mention that, as the Queen Bee of neutrals, there's little thought or stress required when getting dressed in the deep hue. That said, take advantage of its reliability and try something different this spring when you reach for that leather jacket or LBD. Mix it up with a print here and there, or try a trend you may be wary of. 'Tis the season to break out of your winter rut with the help of the most fashionable color out there.

Mix in some prints:
9 Fresh Ways to Wear Black This Spring
Keep your look fairly monochromatic, but add a bit of extra dimension by styling your solid black pieces with a black and white print, be it ditsy florals or bolder color blocking.

Add a statement jacket:
9 Fresh Ways to Wear Black This Spring
An all-black look is like a chic blank canvas, so don't be shy when it comes to adding a piece that's a little more bold, like a statement coat or jacket.

Go sheer:
9 Fresh Ways to Wear Black This Spring
If you've ever had an inkling to choose a top that's a little more sheer than most when headed out at night, try one in black to retain the feeling of elegance and sophistication. Pair it with black styling pieces to keep your look understated.

Try the trends:
9 Fresh Ways to Wear Black This Spring
An understated, chic, and universally flattering color, use deep black hues to try those trends that you may have otherwise been wary of, whether it's a bold cold shoulder or simply a sporty bomber jacket.

Opt for ladylike silhouettes:
9 Fresh Ways to Wear Black This Spring
Balance the edgy nature of the dark color with midi hemlines, silhouettes that nip in at the waist, and feminine heels that pop.

Add flair with accessories:
9 Fresh Ways to Wear Black This Spring
A single all-black look has a thousand varieties when you begin to mix in accessories. The possibilities are endless, so—go ahead—reach for that printed scarf and throw that fringe bag over your shoulder!

Choose interesting shapes:
9 Fresh Ways to Wear Black This Spring
Statement details or silhouettes can be daunting, so test drive one in a neutral, like black. Who knows—you may love it so much, your next step is to try the style in red.

Mix up materials:
9 Fresh Ways to Wear Black This Spring
Varying fabrics boast slightly differing shades of black, so styling leather and denim with cotton and silk gives an extra dimension to your dark, monochromatic outfit.

Experiement with lace:
9 Fresh Ways to Wear Black This Spring
Give a feminine, lace dress a bit of an edge by opting for the one-and-done look in a deep onyx.

The Under-$50 Piece That'll Up Your Spring Outfit Game

Searching for an easy and affordable way to instantly give new life to your off-duty wardrobe? This spring, look no further than the graphic tee. We love this vintage-inspired trend, because it conjures up memories of everything from '70s disco concerts to '90s grunge style; the logos of the '80s and flower power of the '60s. OK, maybe we didn't exactly live through every single one of those decades, but a girl can pretend, can't she? In short: There's a T-shirt for all, and it's time to go out and find yours. Paired with the best of the best spring denim trends (Cropped flares! Raw hems! Even two-in-one jeans!), the streets of fashion week were rife with whimsical and colorful T-shirts—total outfit game-changers. The graphic top first caught our eye on the Vetements runway, as the line has been making a name for itself with conversation-starting, statement making pieces. Who knew it could be as simple as a DHL-branded top? From there, we spotted a Coca Cola print on Buro 24/7's Miroslava Duma and, all of a sudden, it happened: We were totally hooked. While we already know the retro layer looks effortlessly kick-ass with jeans (though, honestly—what doesn't look good with denim?), we're most excited to try a high-low mix as the weather gets warmer and style the casual top with more ladylike pieces—like midi skirts and ballet-inspired flats. A trend this affordable and easy to style is definitely one that we can get behind for summer. While you may be lucky enough to steal some band tees from your parents, possess a collection of originals you have been building for decades, or have a go-to vintage store that's stocked to the ceiling with hundreds of colorful options, it's time to bust them out. Add to your own with the below styles we're loving right now, too!

The 8 French Girl Style Must-Haves for Spring

When in Paris, do as the Parisians do: Drink espresso, eat croissants, and definitely channel that effortlessly cool style all French women seem to be born with. You know the one we're talking about: It's that I-got-dressed-in-five-minutes-and-look-absolutely-awesome look that we all aim to have.

With Paris Fashion Week just behind us, we've stolen some of the best French-girl style essentials for spring. And, to be clear, we fully plan to spend the entire season dressed head-to-toe in these classics. After all, some of the chicest girls around (French or not) have proven them to be total wardrobe must-haves.

The Slouchy Sweater:
The 8 French Girl Style Must-Haves for Spring
Every girl should have that oversized cashmere sweater—in black, navy, or camel—that, slouchy as it may be, is still slim enough to wear to the office without looking frumpy. It's the perfect transitional season pairing for all of your statement pieces, like structured pants or a bright midi skirt.

The Tweed Jacket:
The 8 French Girl Style Must-Haves for Spring
Channel Coco Chanel herself and grab a tweed jacket this spring. While your grandmother may have been in the habit of wearing a skirt suit in the textured weave, youthful French girls have borrowed from their elders and are mixing the elegant piece with slouchy denim and casual cotton T-shirts.

The Black Pants:
The 8 French Girl Style Must-Haves for Spring
The black pants of French girl style are tailored, yet perfectly slouchy. For this wardrobe classic, keep the legs slim, but don't go too skinny. We especially love an ankle crop to be able to style with either booties or ballet flat styles.

The Bomber Jacket:
The 8 French Girl Style Must-Haves for Spring
This off-duty jacket sits somewhere between an edgy moto jacket and super casual denim trucker. Look for a shrunken silhouette that will pair best with an after-hours LBD and your favorite pair of jeans alike.

The Thick-Frame Sunglasses:
The 8 French Girl Style Must-Haves for Spring
Make sure that you have a pair of tortoise or black sunglasses on hand in a classic shape. In a slight cat-eye style, they'll keep your look timeless and never feel too casual or outdated.

The Leather Jacket:
The 8 French Girl Style Must-Haves for Spring
An eternal cool girl go-to, this forever wardrobe staple knows no bounds. Throw it on when heading out to brunch with friends, add the light layer to a midi skirt for office mornings, or give your after-hours style a bit of an edge by pairing a cocktail dress with a cropped moto style.

The Bright Bag:
The 8 French Girl Style Must-Haves for Spring
French girls tend to stick to the classics, styling black pants and jeans with tailored blazers and elegant blouses. The secret to adding a bit of punch to every understated look? A bright bag with a bit of personality that will take you from day to night.

The Straight-Leg Jean:
The 8 French Girl Style Must-Haves for Spring
Americans may love their jeans, but French girls have perfected the denim game. While trends come and go, they always have a pair of those perfect straight-leg jeans that give off that I've-had-these-forever-and-they're-perfect vibe.

These Next-Level Jeans are Spring Outfit Game-Changers

Fashion week street style has been rife with jeans this season. And, as we enter spring (aka prime denim weather), we couldn't be more thrilled. We love an exaggerated flare, a pair of cropped skinnys, and the perfect vintage straight-leg style, but it's the next-level denim that has been coming out in droves. You heard it here first: Remember those Vetements jeans we spotted at the beginning of the month? They are, quite possibly, the most coveted item of the season thus far. And there's more where those came from.

The best part about the below styles is that, while you're welcome to mix them with statement tops or bold sweaters, they hold their own quite well when paired with a simple T-shirt or blouse. These jeans are statements all on their own, and we're currently lusting after every single pair.

Raw Hem:
These Next-Level Jeans are Spring Outfit Game-Changers
Simple as this denim style may be, the unraveled, raw hem truly takes it to the next level. This one looks best in an ankle crop, but comes in all shapes and sizes—from skinny to wide leg and everything in between. You can even DIY your own by cutting off the hem of your jeans with a pair of scissors!

Fringe:
These Next-Level Jeans are Spring Outfit Game-Changers
Take your raw hem one step further and go for a fringe style. Look for these jeans in a shorter length, so the end of the fringe hits you at the ankle. Not sure how to hem them? We've got a tutorial, here.

Two Jeans in One:
These Next-Level Jeans are Spring Outfit Game-Changers
Popularized by French design house, Vetements, this look is literally two pairs sewn together. With front and back seams, an uneven hem, and head-turning butt details (see it here!), these jeans are very cool. The Vetements piece is a major investment—so splurge, or look for a similar pair.

Patchwork:
These Next-Level Jeans are Spring Outfit Game-Changers
If you're looking for a trend that is head-turning, but one that also boasts a classic shape you already know works for you, go for patchwork. Much like the raw-hem style, it's sometimes the simplest details that make the boldest statements.

Colorful Trim:
These Next-Level Jeans are Spring Outfit Game-Changers
Add a little flair to your denim with a colorful trim. Whether you go for a simple ribbon or piping, or opt for a fringe or pom-pom style, this denim is the perfect pairing for your classic white T-shirt this spring.

While we're beginning to remember what the sun feels like on our face, the weather around the country is still a little fickle. From midi skirts to high-waisted trousers, perfect springtime layering ideas and even a polished denim look (for those more casual office environments), the chic street-style stars of fashion month have us covered with the ultimate in outfit inspiration for those days when getting dressed is trickier.

Pair cropped trousers with heeled ankle booties, leaving just a sliver of exposed skin between the two pieces. Add some springtime color with a printed blouse and bright lightweight coat.

Keep it simple with high-waisted trousers and a top, but seek styles with subtle details that make them stand out. We love the oversized cuffs and shoulder buttons on Stylebop's Leila Yavari's striped shirt.

Channel blogger Chriselle Lim and layer a bodysuit or slim T-shirt under your bright springtime dress. It's the perfect transitional wardrobe essential!

For a more casual office environment, go for denim this spring, but make sure you remain polished. Look to Sarah Harris and top your clean ankle-length jeans with a crisp button-down and classic blazer.

Spring is around the corner, but it's not quite warm enough to dive into some of our favorite seasonal trends, head-first. While the days are getting longer, and we can feel the sun's warmth on our faces, skimpy sundresses are not exactly an option just yet. For transitional weather, the best trick is to layer—and there are few pairings we love as much as styling a springtime dress with a slim turtleneck underneath. The look is colorful, seasonally appropriate, and, most importantly, keeps us warm during the fickle weather seasons—what more could we ask for?

Lucky for us, the stylish ladies who are out and about for fashion month have the same love for this trend that we do, and they have been totally rocking it lately, giving us some great inspiration. Scroll through our favorites—from bright, ribbed knits to sleek, black styles—right here.

This is the Best Styling Trick for Transitional Weather
Olivia Palermo needs little more on top when layering her bright plaid sleeveless dress over a slim black turtleneck.

This is the Best Styling Trick for Transitional Weather
Blogger Helena Bordon opts for a boho maxi dress, but makes it seasonally appropriate by adding a slim turtleneck style underneath.

This is the Best Styling Trick for Transitional Weather
Stylist Veronika Heilbrunner makes a sleeveless summer dress work for winter by not only slipping into a pair of tights, but also with a bodysuit underneath. We love that she added a bracelet over her sleeve.

Model Irene Kim uses her turtleneck underlayer to add a pop of color to her black-and-white look.

Blogger Chriselle Lim’s bright embroidered dress is actually a sleeveless jumper, so a turtleneck underneath is the perfect solution for colder weather days.

What's more, turtleneck layering isn't going anywhere—anytime soon. Designers like Proenza Schouler have already filled their fall 2016 runways with the styling trick.

February is notoriously the most bitter cold of all of the winter months. In preparation of the whipping winds and biting temperatures, we look for the heaviest coats, furriest scarves, and most covered silhouettes around. We've all stocked up on the essentials—the puffers, hats, boots, and the like—but what do we do when it's so cold that our go-tos aren't sufficient on their own? Layer.

Editors and street style stars braved the frigid temperatures this past week at New York Fashion Week, and layer up they did. The emerging trend on the streets? Not one, but two coats. Scroll through six chic ways to layer your outerwear for winter here.

While we can always count on a steady stream of quilted Chanel handbags and pom-pom-clad Fendi satchels on the streets of fashion week, each season brings with it a new it bag. It is the one seen on tons of street style stars, in every color of the rainbow. It's the bag we see and—no matter how many bags we already own—we need.

Though we're only a quarter of the way through the marathon that is fashion month, we already have an emerging contender: the Loewe Puzzle bag. We knew we liked the not-too-large hold-everything size and slightly-slouchy shape in colorful leather, suede, and metallics when it hit the spring runways in October. But now? It's feeling like a total must.

Wondering how all of the editors, celebs, and street-style stars are staying warm this New York Fashion Week? Layers, that's how. But not just any kind of layers: We're talking about coats, jackets, sweatshirts, and cozy knits tied around these stylish ladies in ways that—well—these pieces may not exactly have been intended for. In other words? Genius.

Taylor Tomasi Hill dressed for the weather by tying a slim puffer around her waist. We've seen a lot of double-jacket styling on the streets this Fashion Week, but Tomasi Hill's save-it-for-later outerwear look gives new meaning to layering for winter.

While fashion risk-taker Leandra Medine opted for only a single coat layer, she chose to accessorize with a bright red sweater in lieu of a scarf. Her cable-knit layer does double-duty when she wants to switch up her look and add a bit more body warmth.

Even on milder weather days, a bright green ribbed knit adds a whimsical pop of color an volume to an otherwise understated look.

Brands are getting into the action as well, as seen at fall 2016 presentations like J.Crew's. While we're well-versed in the waist-tie sweater trick (be it preppy argyle sweaters or grungy plaid shirting), this slight shift of situating the knot on the side of the hip, instead of in front, adds a cool-girl factor to a tailored suiting look.
