The Shoes You Need to Stop Wearing Right Now

admin

With a brand new season peaking, it totally makes sense that you want to add a few new pairs of shoes to the rotation. And because we fully support that venture, let's clear up some space for those new guys, 'k? Whether it's a trend from years ago you're emotionally attached to or gorgeous heels that give you the ouches, hear us now: Stop wearing them. That last point is the biggest one, since it's way too common to meet a woman who's harboring a shoe that she adores, but hardly ever wears. Whether you made a misstep when purchasing or your foot's changed slightly, it's not doing any good sitting in the dark closet (and please don't suffer through a wearing only to find yourself hobbled by blisters the next day). Donate or sell them—don't forget that what hurts your foot might feel like Cinderella's slipper to someone else.

The Shoes You Need to Stop Wearing Right Now

We love your shoes, but if they're hurting you, ban them from your closet!

Likewise, if you persist in wearing stilettos that are so sky-high they hinder your gait, ditch them. "Shoes that women can't walk in need to stop. No matter how beautiful they are, it loses something when it's impossible to move in," shoe designer Sarah Flint told us.

The list of no-gos from Shopbop included a few looks that shouldn't be banned right out, but retired for just a bit. "Wedged sneakers have come and gone. This year, we think our girl will love a platform sneaker instead," the brand's footwear buyer Gabriela Barreto told us, also suggesting we take a collective break from the chunky sandals of last year. "Comfort is still key, but it's time to shift away from the clunky, orthopedic sandals. We're seeing a ton of slides that are equal parts feminine and easy instead," added Kate Johanson, Shopbop's market editor. Both women also piped up to agree with Michael Kors' statement that rubber flip flops are not meant to be everyday shoes. Unless you're at the beach, stop wearing them, ok?

An unofficial survey of the Glamour offices turned up pleas to ditch square heels and nude patent leather pumps (the leg-lengthening shoe is always a do, but modernize it by trying a warm leather or suede pair instead). Another good relic to take out of the rotation? Logo'ed flats. Keep the skimmer look, but do it in an understated ballet flat with a round or pointed toe.

Now that spring is finally here, our minds have already gone on overdrive, planning all of the outdoor happy hour drinks that will fill the next six months. Between mental lists of the best $5 margaritas and chicest outdoor bars, we suddenly realized: We have nothing to wear. Among our office-appropriate suits and too-revealing-for-the-workplace minis, we need a dress that does double-duty. What's more, we need a few of them—so they can't break the bank either.

You know the dress: that throw-on-and-go that is conservative enough for a morning boardroom meeting, but flirty enough for a date night afterwards. Maybe you style a silk shirtdress with heels in the morning and sneakers at night; perhaps you layer a blazer over your sundress at work and strip it off, come drinks. After all, we can't be expected to waste precious warm-weather hours rushing home after work to change before after-hours events, can we? We've rounded up our favorite go-anywhere dresses, all under $100 so—what are you waiting for? It's time to start shopping.

These Are the 10 Spring Trends “Saving” Fashion Retail This Season

admin
164

A report came out this morning that there are ten trends "saving" the fashion retail industry this spring. Why, you ask, does it need rescuing? In a nutshell, we haven't been shopping as much lately. There just haven't been as many earth-shattering shifts in, say, must-have denim (the skinny jean has been on top for so long, now) to send us to the mall in droves to snag the latest. Also, Millenials; we can thank our I'd-rather-have-an-experience-than-stuff selves for lackluster clothing sales. And those Gen Zers, who want to stand out, not buy what everyone else is wearing.

But back to those spring trends—you, know, the important stuff. Things are changing, and there are tons of fresh trends for spring that are getting everyone excited to shop again—plus, some nice weather to get us outside and show off our goods. We've scanned the list and have to say, yassss, we're on board, and already wearing most of them. Are you? Have a look and see:

1. Off-the-shoulder tops and shoulder cutouts.

Kendall Jenner in a striped, off-the-shoulder top.

2. Destroyed denim.

Gigi Hadid is queen of the ripped jeans look.

3. Flare-leg denim. Are we finally saying buh-bye to our skinnies? Probably not. But the flare style is ultra-flattering—especially when cropped.

4. Cropped tops and bralettes.

5. High-waisted and short shorts for girls.

6. Short shorts for guys. (Wait, what?!)

7. Bottom-knot tops.

8. Halter dresses.

9. Plaid.

10. Yellow and citrus.

One thing we were surprised to not see on this list? Leggings. We guess that's because the trend is not exactly new. But, with people even wearing them to work, this look is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Now watch how to wear everything you've been told not to with model Georgia Pratt.

The Spring 2016 Trends You're About to See Everyone Wearing, According to Pinterest

When you check out that pic of Australian style star Nicole Warne in her off-the-shoulder look, does some version of, "I need to get me some of that!" come to mind immediately? If it does, you're right on trend. The folks at Pinterest basically know us better than we do ourselves, with insight into exactly what we're searching for and pinning (a sure indication of what's bubbling up in real time). Even though the vernal equinox just passed, early birds have been planning their spring style for awhile, and the season's biggest trends are now very apparent.

"We saw spring fashion popping up in January, and it really picked up steam in February," Larkin Brown, researcher and in-house stylist at Pinterest, shared with us. Specifically, exposed shoulders have had a strong presence, making it a sure thing that once the sun comes out, you'll be seeing dresses and tops like Miss Warne's everywhere. "The off-the-shoulder trend has firmly taken hold on Pinterest. Shoulder-baring looks have doubled since the beginning of January."

The other trends that Pinterest knows will be exploding on streets near you soon?

Bold earrings.
Statement necklaces and arm party situations have given way to pay-attention earrings. "Instead of the minimalist studs that previously dominated Pinterest, drop earrings and chandeliers are gaining ground," Larkin said.

High-neck bikinis.
"We're already at the peak of swimsuit pinning as people plan ahead for spring break and summer vacation. This year's trend are high-necked halter bikinis, from sporty styles to boho crochet."

Boho festival fashion.
No matter what the Coachella calendar might tell you, festival fashion extends way beyond two weeks in the California desert. "Our data shows that pinners have been planing their concert-going looks for month," Larkin explained. "Festival style pinning began as early as January and will probably peak in May."

Lace-up sandals.
Sexy, strappy sandals are a trend that's still building. "As temperatures rise, these are moving up, with pinning up 172% year-over-year," she said, noting that the team sees popular images of pairs styled with swimwear, casual looks, and date-night dresses.

Lauren Conrad Shows You 3 Ways to Wear Metallics This Spring

That nice-girl energy Lauren Conrad radiates is real and extends straight into the fashion space. The reality star turned style mogul was kind enough to share her 2016 trend picks with us and just went one better, diving into a how-to tutorial on one of her favorites. "I love wearing metallics in any way, shape, or form," she said. "When I saw that mixed metallics are in this year, I started pulling all of my shiny, shimmery pieces out of my closet to prepare." Prep she did, with specific advice on how to style the look three different ways.

Option 1: Wear with denim.

Lauren Conrad Shows You 3 Ways to Wear Metallics This Spring

If you're just starting to experiment with high-shine or feel nervous, consider this your 101 course. Denim is universally regarded as a good base for whatever you want to add on and lets the metallic piece be the only statement item. "A classic pair of jeans will act as a neutral canvas for whatever else you choose to pair with them," Lauren advised.

Option 2: Wear with a different texture.

Lauren Conrad Shows You 3 Ways to Wear Metallics This Spring

Beyond being flashy, metallics often involve a tactile experiment too (think lamé, sequins, or thick, rich brocade). When you're mixing in a second piece that's also touchable, don't make it compete color-wise. Whether it's a cozy sweatshirt, a slick leather jacket, or a super fuzzy sweater, shop for one in a neutral hue like gray, white, or black.

Option 3: Wear it all the way.

Lauren Conrad Shows You 3 Ways to Wear Metallics This Spring

If you want to go all-in, take Lauren's advice: Don't mix and match random items, but go with a one-piece (like a dress or jumpsuit) or pull on a matched set. It allows for "an outfit that looks cohesive instead of mismatched and too all-over shimmery," she explained.

So, which of the three was LC's favorite? The third. "I could see myself wearing it from day—at a fun girl's luncheon or daytime event—to night for a celebratory soiree. It's the perfect party girl ensemble."

The Under-$50 Piece That'll Up Your Spring Outfit Game

Searching for an easy and affordable way to instantly give new life to your off-duty wardrobe? This spring, look no further than the graphic tee. We love this vintage-inspired trend, because it conjures up memories of everything from '70s disco concerts to '90s grunge style; the logos of the '80s and flower power of the '60s. OK, maybe we didn't exactly live through every single one of those decades, but a girl can pretend, can't she? In short: There's a T-shirt for all, and it's time to go out and find yours. Paired with the best of the best spring denim trends (Cropped flares! Raw hems! Even two-in-one jeans!), the streets of fashion week were rife with whimsical and colorful T-shirts—total outfit game-changers. The graphic top first caught our eye on the Vetements runway, as the line has been making a name for itself with conversation-starting, statement making pieces. Who knew it could be as simple as a DHL-branded top? From there, we spotted a Coca Cola print on Buro 24/7's Miroslava Duma and, all of a sudden, it happened: We were totally hooked. While we already know the retro layer looks effortlessly kick-ass with jeans (though, honestly—what doesn't look good with denim?), we're most excited to try a high-low mix as the weather gets warmer and style the casual top with more ladylike pieces—like midi skirts and ballet-inspired flats. A trend this affordable and easy to style is definitely one that we can get behind for summer. While you may be lucky enough to steal some band tees from your parents, possess a collection of originals you have been building for decades, or have a go-to vintage store that's stocked to the ceiling with hundreds of colorful options, it's time to bust them out. Add to your own with the below styles we're loving right now, too!

The Best Colorful Shoes for Spring That Make All of Your Outfits Pop
Sincerely Jules

Accessories are the easiest way to add some personality to your look each season. A fun fringy bag, oversized statement earrings, or a pair of colorful shoes are simple additions to all of your outfits, no matter where you're headed—from the office to a date night and everything in between. They will instantly take it to the next level. As we begin to bask in the glory of warmer weather, it's time to book a pedicure and rock those shoes that may not have been exactly conducive to the snow-and-ice of winter past. While every woman should own a pair of classic black pumps, it's the brighter, head-turning styles that will make you feel springtime ready as soon as you slip your toes into a new pair. There's something about great heels that just make us stand a little taller: True, they literally lend us inches in stature, but they are the perfect feel-good purchase, as well. Especially to ring in spring—we give you full permission to treat yourself as you attempt to exist that long winter hibernation. This season, when you're searching for your next great pair of heels, go for color—whether you're wearing a pair of tailored trousers, shirtdress, or slouchy denim. Eye-catching as this trend may be, you can totally make it work for you, no matter where you're headed. Early office meeting? Opt for a burgundy tone in a classic pump shape. Planning a late night out on the town? Pull out all the stops and choose a statement shoe with a bold pattern and whimsical detail. Want a little extra lift when headed out to weekend brunch? Chunky mid-heel mules are going to quickly become your go-to. As we embark on our spring shopping, there are so many awesome colorful shoes we're coveting. We may just have to buy more than one!

These Next-Level Jeans are Spring Outfit Game-Changers

Fashion week street style has been rife with jeans this season. And, as we enter spring (aka prime denim weather), we couldn't be more thrilled. We love an exaggerated flare, a pair of cropped skinnys, and the perfect vintage straight-leg style, but it's the next-level denim that has been coming out in droves. You heard it here first: Remember those Vetements jeans we spotted at the beginning of the month? They are, quite possibly, the most coveted item of the season thus far. And there's more where those came from.

The best part about the below styles is that, while you're welcome to mix them with statement tops or bold sweaters, they hold their own quite well when paired with a simple T-shirt or blouse. These jeans are statements all on their own, and we're currently lusting after every single pair.

Raw Hem:
These Next-Level Jeans are Spring Outfit Game-Changers
Simple as this denim style may be, the unraveled, raw hem truly takes it to the next level. This one looks best in an ankle crop, but comes in all shapes and sizes—from skinny to wide leg and everything in between. You can even DIY your own by cutting off the hem of your jeans with a pair of scissors!

Fringe:
These Next-Level Jeans are Spring Outfit Game-Changers
Take your raw hem one step further and go for a fringe style. Look for these jeans in a shorter length, so the end of the fringe hits you at the ankle. Not sure how to hem them? We've got a tutorial, here.

Two Jeans in One:
These Next-Level Jeans are Spring Outfit Game-Changers
Popularized by French design house, Vetements, this look is literally two pairs sewn together. With front and back seams, an uneven hem, and head-turning butt details (see it here!), these jeans are very cool. The Vetements piece is a major investment—so splurge, or look for a similar pair.

Patchwork:
These Next-Level Jeans are Spring Outfit Game-Changers
If you're looking for a trend that is head-turning, but one that also boasts a classic shape you already know works for you, go for patchwork. Much like the raw-hem style, it's sometimes the simplest details that make the boldest statements.

Colorful Trim:
These Next-Level Jeans are Spring Outfit Game-Changers
Add a little flair to your denim with a colorful trim. Whether you go for a simple ribbon or piping, or opt for a fringe or pom-pom style, this denim is the perfect pairing for your classic white T-shirt this spring.

If you're going to invest in one new bag this spring, this could be the one. When we saw Chloé's colorful fringe bags on the spring runways a few months ago, we knew we needed to have one. Or at least a style that reminded us of the Parisian perfection before our eyes. Equal parts structured and whimsical, they are exactly what our spring wardrobes are craving.

The Bag That Everyone is Carrying at Paris Fashion Week

Watching the dynamic swinging movement of the bohemian detail walk down the runway was like magic: We had already started planning outfits around the bag itself. The perfect statement bag for weekends in denim? Absolutely. As spring is upon us, and fashion month is in full force, we've started to spot our favorite bag trend of the season all over the place. Now, it's official: It's time to make the style ours. Whether you opt for a rainbow of hues, or keep your swinging fringe to classic black or brown, now is the time to choose this statement bag style for spring.

Fashion trends have begun to shift toward the more casual this season, as we try even more denim styles, look for vintage-inspired T-shirts, and often opt for flats over heels. The trick to keeping your look polished and age-appropriate while rocking youthful off-duty styles, however, is to choose pieces that still have polished structure and grown-up details.

When it comes to your carryall this spring, consider a backpack. Whether you one-strap it, two strap-it, or slip the top handle over the crook of your arm (admit it: back in high school there was totally a forever-rotating "cool girl" way to rock the backpack look!), this childhood favorite has been re-invented in a more sophisticated way. The leather is structured, the shape is classic, and—oh—did we mention it will hold everything a busy girl-on-the-go needs? We've hit the trifecta this season.

This Off-Duty Bag Is Back and More Stylish Than Ever
Blogger Linda Tol with a bright red style from Chanel at Milan Fashion Week.

Seek a style with a distinct shape that echoes that of your current shoulder bags. Don't be afraid to show your personality with color, whimsical details, or tassel and fringe—just make sure that playful detail comes in the form of a structured leather carryall and not a nylon rucksack! With backpacks popping up everywhere for spring, it's sure to become your new favorite go-to.
