Confirmed by Kendall Jenner: Marc Jacobs Fall ’16 Had “The Scariest Shoes”

admin
236

The serious platform boots Marc Jacobs sent down his fall 2016 runway had to be the most wow-worthy of the entire New York Fashion Week—they looked like they added at least eight inches to everyone. As onlookers, you couldn't help but think they'd be impossibly difficult to walk in, much less boldly stride down a much-watched catwalk, but hey, maybe it's par-for-the-course when you're a pro model. Thankfully, Kendall Jenner took to her site to confirm that, no, we're not being big babies, and, yes, those boots were seriously intimidating.

"Rehearsing (in the scariest shoes!!!) at Marc Jacobs," she blogged. "These boots were NOT made for walking."

Props to Kendall and co. for making it look so easy. Meanwhile, we're ecstatic to report that the easy-to-walk-in mid-heel is back in a big way for spring.

6 Ways to Layer Your Outerwear This Winter

February is notoriously the most bitter cold of all of the winter months. In preparation of the whipping winds and biting temperatures, we look for the heaviest coats, furriest scarves, and most covered silhouettes around. We've all stocked up on the essentials—the puffers, hats, boots, and the like—but what do we do when it's so cold that our go-tos aren't sufficient on their own? Layer.

Editors and street style stars braved the frigid temperatures this past week at New York Fashion Week, and layer up they did. The emerging trend on the streets? Not one, but two coats. Scroll through six chic ways to layer your outerwear for winter here.

Blogger Helena Bordon layers a statement coat over an army green bomber. It's the perfect insulated layer to keep warm with a thinner springtime coat.

Capes are one of the chicest silhouettes—but on a freezing winter day, keeping your arms covered is a must. Look to stylist Leaf Greener for inspiration and slip into a casual denim jacket under your wool cape.

Model Lineisy Montero pulls on navy trench over her embellished leather jacket to keep warm and protect herself from the wet weather elements.

6 Ways to Layer Your Outerwear This Winter
Blogger Pernille Teisbaek adds extra warmth to her tailored black coat by putting an oversized blanket scarf on top.

Glamour's own Florence Kane rocks the classics by topping her navy wool coat with a much-needed winter parka.

While we can always count on a steady stream of quilted Chanel handbags and pom-pom-clad Fendi satchels on the streets of fashion week, each season brings with it a new it bag. It is the one seen on tons of street style stars, in every color of the rainbow. It's the bag we see and—no matter how many bags we already own—we need.

Though we're only a quarter of the way through the marathon that is fashion month, we already have an emerging contender: the Loewe Puzzle bag. We knew we liked the not-too-large hold-everything size and slightly-slouchy shape in colorful leather, suede, and metallics when it hit the spring runways in October. But now? It's feeling like a total must.

Lady Gaga is having quite the month. First, she sang the National Anthem at the Super Bowl, then she channeled David Bowie in a knockout performance at the Grammys, and now: model in the Marc Jacobs fall show. Yes, you heard that right—after making the rounds at New York Fashion Week, sitting front row at shows like Brandon Maxwell, Gaga took to the runway in a Bowie-inspired look just moments ago.

And, might we add, she looked pretty fabulous. Gaga walked amidst all of the other models, with no fanfare to speak of. If not for the bright yellow hue of her hair, you may have missed her! Check out her look below.

Harper Beckham is Taking After Her Style Icon Mum, Check Out Her Gucci Shoes!

Victoria Beckham showed her fall 2016 collection at New York Fashion Week this morning and every season it gets better and better. The pop-star-turned designer send out terrific mixed prints, cutout tweed tops with matching pencil skirts and elegant daywear—and as good as it all was, there was a style star that outshone them all: Four-year-old Harper Beckham.

The littlest Beckham arrived with her dad and brood of brothers to see mum's show and look at how chic she is:

Rebecca Minkoff is Shaking up Fashion Week—For You

You know that eye-rolling feeling when you step into a store only to be faced with clothing that you’ve seen a thousand times before? Well, soon it will be a distant memory. Ever since editors and bloggers started Instagramming their favorite outfits during fashion week, only for them to land in stores six painfully slow months later, things have started to feel old, for both shoppers and designers. Take Rebecca Minkoff, for instance. She has plans to remedy all this with a show at New York Fashion Week tomorrow that will combine clothing that’s already in store, along with some new, as yet unseen limited-edition pieces that will be available to buy, or pre-order, as quick as you can like them on social media.

“Women want instant gratification,” explains Minkoff of the about turn (she plans to show her fall collection in September, and that will be entirely new). “Now, if they see something on a blogger or on Instagram, they can actually buy it straight away. I think it only eases a lot of the pain that people were experiencing.” It’s not the first time Minkoff has bypassed the traditional way of doing things and adhered to the preferences of her devotees. “Bringing our consumer along with the process has always been part of how we do things,” she emphasizes. “We like to keep an open dialogue and engage with the women who buy our clothes.” Her proven track record includes a clutch of bags co-designed with her shoppers’ input which she’s brought into being through partnerships with Polyvore, Nordstrom and Saks.

Other designers are riding a similar wave. Tom Ford recently announced plans to show his fall collections in September. Burberry have decided to do away with season altogether and rename them September and February rather than Spring and Fall. Proenza Schouler announced right before New York Fashion Week that they will be including a capsule collection of buy-now-wear-now "Early Edition" ready-to-wear and bags on their fall 2016 runway. And while Misha Nonoo plans to skip this coming fashion week altogether and show her fall collection in September along with the others, Topshop has long been ahead of the curve by offering women the chance to pre-order items from their Unique show as they watch it live streamed from fashion week.

It’s a sign that the industry is rapidly changing to meet the demands of shoppers like you. Rather than keep the season’s clothes purely for editors and buyers to see, there’s now something of an open door policy. Indeed, the CFDA are currently musing over whether the type of fashion week model Minkoff, Tom Ford and Burberry are opting for, should be made the fashion week norm. All things considered, it seems that designers are coming to that conclusion themselves. As Minkoff puts it: “Fashion week should be for everybody; that’s really the future.”

The Models’ Instructions Show It Was Really, Really Hard Being in the Yeezy Season 3 Show

The Models' Instructions Show It Was Really, Really Hard Being in the Yeezy Season 3 Show

While reality shows and reality star models have officially gotten through the message that, yes, modeling can be work, we're sure a lot of industry members have never worked quite as hard as the group that posed for Kanye West's Yeezy Season 3 yesterday. Really, has Kanye's sister-in-law Kendall Jenner even faced a list of demands instructions like this?

The list of "performance rules" was shared on social media and revealed that smiling, dancing, whispering, and singing were all banned ("unless instructed" on the last). It seems obvious that some of the guidelines fed into the moody vibe that performance artist Vanessa Beecroft, working together with Kanye for the third time, was after: Models were to "behave as if no one was in the room" and understand that whatever they did affected the group as a whole. Plus, since the entire thing was staged at Madison Square Garden a strict call to avoid looking at the Jumbotron was also issued. It was a lot to digest, and the entire group pretty much nailed it, excepting perhaps a black-clad Naomi Campbell, who honestly can't not look cool (other big-name models on stage included Veronica Webb, Alek Wek, and Liya Kebede).

Honestly, you have to hope that some of these models also work as actors, because a few directives seemed to be at odds. While they were supposed to "alternate between attention and ease," they couldn't act cool, casual, or sexy. Physically, there were to be no sharp, fast, or slow movements—natural only. And just in case all this was too much, they were permitted to lie down if tired.

20 Million People Tune in to Kanye West Fashion Show Livestream

"Make some noise for Olivier," screamed Kanye West into the roaring crowd of fashion editors and fans at Madison Square Garden at the listening party for his new album and Yeezy Season 3 fashion show, which started a bit over an hour ago in New York.

The livestream is taking place right now at New York Fashion Week and a staggering 20 million people are watching it on Tidal (you can tune in here), and according to a rep from Tidal: “With over 20 million people logging in at once to stream the show there were tech issues from AMV, the provider with service from Akamai. Any viewers still having issues can refresh their browsers or set it to a lower streaming level.”

In other major news, Lamar Odom joined the Kardashian and Jenner crew at the show. Kim Kardashian West, North, Karlie Kloss, Melanie Griffith, Olivier Rousteing and Anna Wintour watched the Vanessa Beecroft-designed performance piece, featuring male and female models outfitted in sports-inspired fashion, as West narrated the effusive crowd through his new album. "Tell me about what you think about the clothes this season," said West.

The Kardashians and Jenners, all dressed in shades of cream, exited the venue at 5:26pm, while the event went on. Models, who stood in position for over an hour looked tired and sometimes took breaks sitting.

Snapchat Starter Kit: The Designers, Editors, and It Girls to Follow for New York Fashion Week

Snapchat: not just for teens and NSFW texts! In a few short seasons, the messaging app has gone from something purely for The Youngs to one of the fashion industry’s favorite tools for social sharing. (Need proof? Even Anna Wintour is on board.)

If Instagram is a vintage china plate piled high with pastel macarons, a latte topped with foam art at its side, then Snapchat is a tray of nachos—messy, fun, and gone before you know it (Snaps disappear after you view them, Stories stick around for 24 hours). Meaning, your Snapchat app is your window into the real New York Fashion Week—all the backstage antics, after-after-parties, and back-of-the-cab Adele sing-alongs the fashion set gets into after they’ve posted their 140-character collection reviews and carefully composed runway-side selfies (#frow).

That’s why we’ve rounded up our favorite bloggers, editors, stylists, models, designers, it girls, and more to add on Snapchat before NYFW is in full swing. Get ready to amp up your friends list! And stay tuned—we’ll also be highlighting must-follow fashion folks in London, Paris, and Milan.

Alexander Wang, @alexanderwang

Alexander Wang is an expert at using Snapchat as a platform for giveaways and breaking news, but it’s the occasional glimpse into the designer’s downtime with his #modelsquad—Hanne Gaby Odiele, Binx Walton, Anna Ewers, Lexi Boling—that really grabs our attention.

Calvin Klein, @calvinklein

With Justin Bieber fronting its campaigns, Calvin Klein is already sitting on Snapchat gold. We’ll be watching this one closely when the brand’s fall collection debuts on February 18th.

Casey Neistat, @caseyneistat

No Snapchat must-follow list would be complete without Casey Neistat, one of the app’s biggest stars. Known for his zany storytelling, the filmmaker live-Snapped with Karlie Kloss at Oscar de la Renta last year, so be on the lookout for more to come.

Eva Chen, @theevachen212

It’s no surprise that the social media pro’s Snaps are just as compelling as her Instagrams. Follow Eva if you like your runway shots mixed with beauty recommendations and adorable baby photos.

Gigi Hadid, @doublegiforce

Life updates from an actual mermaid angel.

Glamour, @glamourmag

Ok, we’re a little biased here. But seriously guys, our Snapchat is so much fun! Manned by a rotating cast of Glamour staffers, our account's typical day could start with a Jasmine Tookes takeover and end at Saint Laurent’s first LA runway show. (Which, uh, happened this week.)

Irene Kim, @ireneisgood

The Seoul-based model is in town for Calvin Klein fittings, according to her latest Snaps. Be on alert for Uber selfies en route to shows, Korean BBQ shots, and switch-ups to Kim’s signature rainbow hair.

Issa Lish, @issa.lish

A member of Alexander Wang's girl gang, following the Brooklyn-based model might be your best bet for peeking inside one of the designer's famous after-parties. (Last season's surprise performers included Lil Wayne and Ludacris.)

Jared Leto, @jaredleto

Is there anything more thrilling than glimpsing Jared Leto’s pink man bun bobbing through the crowd at a fashion month event? (Answer: No.) The actor’s snaps are few and far between, but we’ll be keeping an eye on his account to see if he makes an appearance at NYFW.

Joan Smalls, @joan_smalls

Follow the runway staple's Snapchat for 10-second snippets of backstage mayhem, workout routines, and glamorous getaways.

Kendall Jenner, @kendalljenner

While Kendall isn’t exactly a prolific Snapchatter compared to the rest of the Kardashian clan, we’re crossing our fingers the model will offer up a rare Story or two this season.

Man Repeller, @man_repeller

Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine brings her signature sense of humor to all her social media platforms (this Instagram of Justin Bieber hoverboarding in space is a thing of beauty). Plus, she’s like, the Patron Saint of Wearing Silk Pajamas to a Fancy Party Like It’s NBD.

Michael Kors, @michaelkors

The designer’s shows are always supermodel central, so we’re hoping for some backstage cameos from Karlie & Co. when the designer’s latest looks premiere on February 17th.

Rihanna, @badgalrihanna

What a month for Rihanna! Two weeks after releasing her eight album, Anti, the pop star is set to unveil her latest Puma collab at New York Fashion Week. Watch her Snapchat for snippets of her presentation.

Riley Montana, @rileymorello

Strap in. Model of the moment Riley Montana's Snapchat is a whirlwind of lip-syncing, spa-hopping, and selfie-taking.

Soo Joo Park, @soojoomoojoo

Model Soo Joo Park has mastered the art of the well-placed Snapchat emoji. Follow along for backstage shots of her runway looks and glimpses of her world travels.
