Kate Middleton Will Pack 15 Outfits, Hiking Boots for Her Upcoming Tour of India and Bhutan: “She’s In Charge of It Herself”

If you obsessed over Kate Middleton's wardrobe when she toured Australia and New Zealand with Prince William and a baby Prince George, get excited—it's happening again! The couple is set to go to India and Bhutan for a six-day tour, jetting off on April 10, and royal insiders have provided some scoop on what the Duchess of Cambridge will be packing. She'll bring between 12 and 15 outfits, with two typically worn per day. While the actual act of packing might go to someone else, Kate is still very involved in what makes it into her suitcases.

"It's very much a process that she leads, though she does have some help from her staff when it comes to sourcing outfits. She is in charge of it herself and takes an interest in paying tribute to the host country with nods to their culture and local style on at least a few of the engagements," an insider told The Telegraph, referencing the way she's picked designers from the countries she visits. "The important factor on this tour is the heat, so that's an issue that plays a big part in the choice of outfits."

Kate, mind you, is not going into the adventure blind as we might when packing for vacation. A scouting group has made a "rehearsal trip," and the young mum's private secretary Rebecca Deacon took notes to help inform fashion decisions. Photographs were also taken of all the stops on the couple's itinerary to ensure selected outfits look good against the background where they'll be photographed. While the majority of her looks will likely be pretty dresses and heels (there's a formal reception and dinner celebrating Bollywood's best that sounds promising on the glamour front), we know a few sporty moments will be included. The Duke and Duchess are set to play with local children, watch a cricket match, and embark on a six-hour hike that's supposed to be strenuous—maybe she'll pack something from the label that provided her with athleisure togs for an event earlier this year.

We do know that the wardrobe cost will likely be sizable. For the three-week tour Down Under, estimates came in around $54,000, a pretty penny for the thrift store-loving royal.

How to Wear Leggings at Work, According to a Woman Who’s Dressed Kate Middleton in Workout Clothes

On the behalf of the Duchess of Cambridge, we've got to say thank goodness for athleisure. Without stylish pieces meant to work out, how else could Kate Middleton ever attend sporting events where she's required to get active without losing a modicum of royal dignity? For a tennis event in Scotland this winter the brand she relied on was Monreal, a London-based company created by tennis player Stefanï Grosse.

"She's such a style icon that it was extremely flattering to see her sporting our tuxedo track pants. We were caught by surprise and didn't know she was going to wear them," Grosse told us, having found out later that Kate bought the pair herself from a London shop. Pay attention to the shape too: they're looser than leggings (could a new trend be bubbling up?) "I wouldn't be surprised if her choice of leg shape has an impact on the next athleisure silhouette. The slim-fit track pant is perfectly suitable for any type of workout and less revealing than classic leggings, making it a more polished and sophisticated look for wearing outside the gym."

While we're eager to see how the Duchess-approved pants affect what others reach for, classic leggings are unlikely to flag in popularity any time soon. According to Grosse, the key to making yours work outside the gym is to carefully consider both shoe and color.

"Chic sandals will make stylish leggings perfect for any occasion—they can even be worn well with heels," she said before suggesting you leave printed tights to the workout arena. "Darker, muted colors are generally the easiest to wear in non-sports related environments." To really rock the leggings IRL game, it might be worth it to consider shopping separate pairs for your cardio and your off-time. Grosse mentions a pair of biker leggings with zipper details that "can be worn just like skinny jeans. Combined with a beautiful long cashmere sweater or cardigan and smart sandals or boots, leggings are definitely office worthy."

Monreal's biker leggings

As much as we love 'em, there's more to athleisure than just leggings. If you've already figured out how to wear yours 24/7, consider adding in a new shape and follow Victoria Beckham's lead.

"She was one of the very first customers to purchase our signature tennis dress at Harrods. It's the perfect athleisure style, and I don't believe she's a tennis player," she commented. "A lot of women wear it as a white summer dress. Some of our tennis skirts have been spotted around town combined with designer tops or knitwear."

Investing in pricey workout togs can feel a little bit jarring, but finding a great fit and superior fabrication (and an overall product that won't disintegrate after too many dances with the dryer) can be worth it. Take heart too that the athleisure trend isn't going anywhere. Grosse started Monreal in May 2012 to fill a void she'd noticed and has seen that there's major staying power.

"I simply wasn't able to find high-performance workout gear that would also be stylish enough to zip around in when the match was over," she explained regarding her push to start designing. "Athleisure has taken off rapidly since, and this trend is here for the long run. Activewear is no longer just about practicality and need—it's about desire."

Kate Middleton Went Shopping at a Thrift Store (And Not For the First Time!)

The Duchess of Cambridge has fashion news for us today! Kate Middleton took a drive this morning to a thrift store near her country estate, Anmer Hall, to browse the racks and greet people who came out to celebrate the newly opened shop. In lieu of looking for deals, Kate was on-hand to greet volunteers and families connected with East Anglia's Children's Hospices, a charity she supports (proceeds from the store will benefit the organization). While shopping wasn't the real purpose of the outing, the royal did ring up a few things at the till—People reports she bought a children's book and figurine.

Before any naysayers start to think that, hey, of course Kate wouldn't be buying second-hand clothes for herself, we've got a little piece of shopping history for you. When she attended the Lucian Freud Portraits Exhibition at London's National Portrait Gallery in February 2012, the pretty belted coat dress she wore came from, gasp, a consignment shop the Middletons are known to frequent. The Stock Exchange, located near the family's home in Berkshire, said that one of Kate's aides did the actual shopping, and that they were thrilled to see the piece worn publicly.

"It looked a lot better on Kate than it did on a hanger in our store," a post on the shop's blog reads. "This purchase caused a bit of a frenzy with fashion followers being eager to buy their own to emulate the Duchess' elegant style. We obviously received a lot of calls and enquiries as to whether we could source any further items, but sadly we sold out very quickly."

The Kate Middleton Style Hack You Need to Try Before Winter’s Over

When it comes to wardrobe heroes, it's easy to see what Kate Middleton relies on: perfectly tailored, utterly sophisticated outerwear. The Duchess wears hers as others do sleek dresses, leaving them snugly fastened so they are the look. And because she's an ace re-wearer, she's found the world's easiest styling hack for making them appear new. It's a trick she's pulled out before, and she just gave us another example with today's outfit, picking the same green Sportmax coat she wore on Christmas Day for a quick trip to Scotland.

The Kate Middleton Style Hack You Need to Try Before Winter's Over

In Edinburgh for a tennis event

Pretty, right? She finished it off with a skinny belt this go-around that wasn't needed to keep the coat closed or in place, but instead helped it feel more dress-like than, well, a coat (important if, like Kate, you're planning on keeping the piece on through an entire event). When the topper came out to play for Christmas it was finished with a totally different belt: a thick, croc-like style that matched the coat's forest green hue. The thin belt we saw today looks like the one that came with the coat (see it here), which means it was the December look that really had Kate thinking outside of the box.

On Christmas Day, 2015

Kate pulled the same trick with this L.K. Bennett coat (don't let the different lighting fool you). When she wore it earlier this month it was with the original belt that came with it, but for a 2011 trip to Denmark it was paired with a statement belt, creating a chic, bespoke feel.

The Kate Middleton Style Hack You Need to Try Before Winter's Over

To try the trick IRL, work with what you've got: Pull out any lightweight, non-bulky coats and whatever classic belts you've got stashed in the closet. Try likes with likes, buckling your more casual belts on with weekend-ready coats (like a leather number with your favorite parka); cinch ladylike jackets with prim styles. The accessory's magic powers work for warmer weather too, when you can switch up the feel of any of your dresses by finishing with a different belt.

Psst—want a sneak-peek at the outfit Kate picked for under her coat today? While it's true that the Duchess typically leaves her outerwear done up, never revealing a look at her actual outfit, we got a little glimpse when she exited her car. It seems like her black turtleneck sweater was tucked into a black and white knee-length houndstooth skirt. Preppy princess!

Here’s What Kate Middleton Wears to the Office (No, Really!)

When we found out that Kate Middleton would be guest-editing the Huffington Post U.K. for a day this month, we knew we were about to have a rare style moment on our hands: What will the Duchess wear for an actual day at the office? The big moment happened yesterday, with the site setting up shop in an impromptu newsroom at Kensington Palace, and we got our answer. Kate showed up ready to get busy in a high-collared Reiss blouse, Dolce & Gabbana skirt, and opaque black tights. The skirt appears to be sold out, but you can still snap up the top ($230, reiss.com).

Here's What Kate Middleton Wears to the Office (No, Really!)

The outfit is simple yet trend-driven thanks to the neckline and fringed detail on the skirt, and we're relived she realized that her favored coatdresses wouldn't fly in the working world. They're impossibly chic, yes, but best for professional duties that include arriving and walking around to greet people, not hunkering down near a computer or hashing out story ideas. All in all, we're handing her high marks for a pulled-together outfit that looks a lot like what you'd really see in offices around the country (both in the U.S. and U.K.).

This isn't the first time we got to see a different style side of Kate either. Yesterday we broke down this picture of her catching a helicopter ride home, fascinated for the view it afforded of her real-girl style (a.k.a. not an outfit she picked when she knew she'd be widely photographed).

FYI: Kate's work on the site focused on children's mental health, a cause she's worked tirelessly on since her arrival in the royal family. You can read her HuffPo blog post here (byline: Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge).

Kate Middleton has done it again! "It" being wearing a virtually flawless coat-and-fascinator ensemble, of course.

Kate Middleton Wows in All Blue at the RAF Air Cadets Anniversary Ceremony

The duchess stepped out for an event commemorating the RAF Air Cadets' 75th anniversary at St Clement Danes Church in London earlier today and looked as picture-perfect as ever in a trim baby blue coat, which she deftly paired with navy pumps and a dark blue fascinator. We know that Kate looks amazing in blue (or just about any color, if we're being honest), but the three shades in this ensemble are particularly eye-catching.

Her soft makeup worked to complement the look—but no word on if she was wearing that new Marc Jacobs lipstick named after Princess Charlotte.

Kate Middleton’s Breakover Style Showed Prince William Just What He Was Missing

While we know Kate Middleton and Prince William as the blissfully content, genetically blessed pair with two adorable little ones, let's not forget that there was trouble in paradise at some point. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spent a few months broken up back in 2007 (reportedly apart from April to June), and they behaved similar to any other 20-somethings, going out and having a good time.

To celebrate Kate's 34th birthday on Saturday, rather than look back on her best red-carpet moments or dive into exactly where you can buy her favorite shoes, we decided to take a walk down memory lane—because, hey, they're not exactly the kinds of pieces one might envision for a future queen. Go figure: Royals, they're kind of just like us.

You don't need a palace insider for the scoop on what was happening with the couple—anyone who's ever lived through their 20s knows that a break-up (or rocky point) often involves one or both parties stepping out to remind the other just how crazy/sexy/cool they are. Before the couple officially went on break, Kate spent a fun night out at Mahiki in London's tony Mayfair neighborhood with sister Pippa. Her secret style weapon? A silky, kerchief maxi that showed off her chest and begged to be touched.

In April, Kate's hemlines had risen to a level that might not even pass the fingertip test. Sheer black tights let her flash some stems in the breezy British weather, while knee-high boots provided a sexy, trendy edge. Compare that slouchy style to the polished way she wears them now (over thick leggings no less), and you'll notice a major difference.

We talk a lot about Kate Middleton's dresses and coats, but not so much about her footwear. The Duchess is a fan of classic styles and shapes, and when she finds something she likes, she re-wears it (frequently). Still, she's not quite as stoic as the queen, who only ever wears black shoes—there are different colors and styles mixed in throughout her repertoire. While you're likely already familiar with her L.K. Bennett nude heels and Stuart Weitzman wedges (supposedly axed by the queen!), we rounded up a few of the other styles she's worn recently.

For a Christmas party at a charity she supports, Kate finished off her festive red Alexander McQueen dress with a pair of black suede Stuart Weitzman heels. While the suede version isn't easily found online, you can still nab the classic shape in black or tan here (a few sizes of the shoe in forest green suede are also up for grabs here). Dedicated commenters over at What Kate Wore found a similar style from a collab Stuart Weitzman did with British retailer Russell & Bromley too: It's called the Plunge and sells for roughly $270.

When the proud mama emerged with Princess Charlotte for the first time, she picked a leg-lengthening pair of nude heels from Jimmy Choo. You're looking at the Gilbert, a classic style included in the brand's collection of best-sellers. "It's a tremendous honor hat the Duchess of Cambridge chose to wear Jimmy Choos on this momentous occasion," Choo's creative director Sandra Choi told The Hollywood Reporter. The style is a popular seller, meaning stock is frequently low (though there's one size on serious sale here).

When it comes to boots, Kate has shown her love again and again for Aquatalia. Her most favored style appears to be the Rhumba, a heeled pair that comes up to the knee. Like many of the styles she's worn out, it can be tricky to find a pair for yourself, but a few exist (see if your style is stocked here). She packed them for a fall trip to Scotland, wearing them with a cobalt blue Christopher Kane coat, and took them out of the closet for a Christmas weekend look this December.

There aren't a ton of opportunities to spot Kate in party shoes either, but thanks to the London premiere of the new James Bond flick Spectre, we did! The royal finished off her Jenny Packham gown with a pair of open-toe Jimmy Choo "Vamp" sandals. The style is totally sold-out everywhere, but there are two pairs currently up on The RealReal (congratulations, size 6 and 9.5!).

One of her biggest recent style wins was this stunning lace Dolce & Gabbana dress, picked in the rich color of the year. She complemented the look with a pair of matching heels in a brand that's new to her. Royal style students have identified the pumps as Gianvito Rossi's "Gianvito," a pick that makes sense since the super stylish Sophie, Countess of Wessex, is reportedly a fan of the brand. The classic shape comes in different colors and is on the brand's site.

Remember that Stuart Weitzman collaboration we mentioned above? It clearly turned out a few pairs Kate liked, including this "Halfnhalf" boot. It's very similar to the brand's 50/50 boot (one of the first over-the-knee boots to captivate shoppers, as popularized by Gisele), but doesn't rise quite as high. The Duchess wore them to an official event last fall, but has also been spotted in them while running errands in December.

Derek Zoolander and Hansel (cough—Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson) parading down Valentino's fall 2015 runway (they scored 33.33 percent of votes). Sports Illustrated's plus-size model moments and H&M's Balmain collaboration tied for the silver-medal.

With two nominations, the odds were in Kate Middleton's favor of taking the top spot. She grabbed it with with a wide lead, coming in first with 45 percent of the votes for the bright red Jenny Packham gown she wore for her first big state banquet. The dress was stunning, but had some accessories help too: The event marked only the third time she'd ever worn a tiara. From Princess Sofia to Kate Middleton, Here’s What Royals Wear for the Holidays

When being royal is your job, the holiday season doesn't mean a slow-down cruising into vacation time spent vegging out with family. Rather, December is busy, with festive visits to charities, meet-and-greets with the populace, and lots of formal Christmas parties. Because today's crop of princesses (and duchesses and countesses) is so impressively well-dressed, we're taking a second to study what they've been wearing to all of it. If you've still got holiday fun times on the calendar, your outfit inspiration has arrived.

Princess Charlene of Monaco took to the streets in a crazy chic cape and flat over-the-knee boots. She picked the outfit to hand out Christmas gifts to hundreds of the country's children, but we say the combo works for pretty much anything you've got coming up (from a cocktail party to an afternoon of errands—a chic outfit always improves the mundane).

From Princess Sofia to Kate Middleton, Here's What Royals Wear for the Holidays

That most princess of wardrobe staples, the coatdress, makes an appearance on Sophie, Countess of Wessex. As daughter-in-law to the queen, Sophie's had years to perfect stylish, demure outfits like this one, and it's a style worth playing with. Smart coatdresses don't necessarily crowd the racks at your local mall, but you can capture the same tailored, retro-inspired shape with a full A-line dress nipped in at the waist.

When Kate Middleton was the guest at a Christmas party hosted by a charity she supports, the Duchess went all-in, re-wearing a festive Alexander McQueen dress (psst—this is the same dress that Kim Kardashian West has worn!). The crisp pleating and notched peplum detail would look lovely in any shade, but we like the festive pick of holly berry-red.

The Swedish royals had a black-tie celebration to attend, and pregnant Princess Sofia picked a fluid Viktoria Chan dress (and her clutch is from H&M!). We love the pretty teal color, a nice twist on the more typical forest green you see popping up this time of year. And while her gown is made formal with family jewels and a glossy blow-out, a pick like this could work for a more casual family dinner if worn with flats, minimal accessories, and a topknot.

From Princess Sofia to Kate Middleton, Here's What Royals Wear for the Holidays

Her sister-in-law Princess Madeleine went with a gown from Swedish designer Ida Sjosted that used a sheer, dotted overlay to add intrigue and a tiny dose of sex appeal. If you live in a chilly clime, pay attention to her choice of topper too: A fuzzy, waist-length coat is a reliable piece to pick if you need another layer but are dressed too formally to pull on a fleece or the black basic you wear into the office.

With a fresh year on the horizon, ready to be filled with more divine royal style, it's only fitting we take a look back. Come relive the best royal outfits of 2015, then vote on which was your favorite.

Crazy, but true: There is a shared link between the closets of the Duchess of Cambridge and Kim Kardashian West. Kate Middleton attended a London school's Christmas party yesterday looking as regal as ever in a long-sleeve red Alexander McQueen dress she's worn before. The bright holly-red was festive enough for the occasion, but still princess-appropriate with a knee-length hemline and wrist-touching sleeves (it's no coatdress, but close).

Now what if we told you that Kim's actually worn the same polished, prim dress? Your brain's doing crazy somersaults of confusion, we know. The reality star actually sported the style back in 2011, albeit a shortened, sleeveless version. Aside from the structural differences, Kim put her own styling spins on it too. Where the Duchess wore basic, mid-height black pumps, Kim wore snakeskin Louboutins. The royal wore no major jewelry, while KKW had a statement necklace flashing. The one thing they both did? Grabbed a small clutch in lieu of a larger day bag.

From Kate Middleton’s Tiaras to Queen Letizia’s Amazing Shoes, The Best Royals Style Moments of 2015

Royal-wise, it was a big year. We had new babies, new princesses, and all the fabulous outfits that surround those events. And while the lure of a jaw-dropping ballgown and diamond tiara is hard to resist, there were some more casual moments that caught our attention too, whether it was Princess Victoria showing flawless maternity style or a certain Spanish queen bringing fairytale shoes into the real world. See which outfits and accessories topped our list of favorites before voting at the end.

1. Princess Mary's New Year's Day outfit
From Kate Middleton's Tiaras to Queen Letizia's Amazing Shoes, The Best Royals Style Moments of 2015
The Danish princess started off 2015 right, wearing a dreamy outfit to a formal dinner at the palace. The belted white gown would have been super simple on its own, but the heavy-weight jewelry makes it (not to mention the dramatic velvet cape).

3. Kate Middleton's Alexander McQueen dress, worn to Princess Charlotte's christening
From Kate Middleton's Tiaras to Queen Letizia's Amazing Shoes, The Best Royals Style Moments of 2015
By now the world knows the Duchess of Cambridge can rock a chic christening look like nobody's business. Kate's cream McQueen suit (and Jane Taylor hat) matched Charlotte's cascading robe in the same manner as her earlier McQueen look did when it was George's big day.

4. Prince George's mini-me William outfits
From Kate Middleton's Tiaras to Queen Letizia's Amazing Shoes, The Best Royals Style Moments of 2015
Princess Charlotte hasn't had enough outings to land her on our list (yet), but big brother George most certainly has. Of his many stylish moments this year—one of which caused kiddie Crocs to sell-out—the best might be the retro-inspired outfits he's been wearing, nearly identical at times to ones dad Prince William wore as a little guy.

5. Princess Sofia's Zuhair Murad gown, worn the day before her wedding

Before she officially became a princess, Sofia Hellqvist proved she had the whole fairytale fashion thing down. For a formal lunch preceding her summer nuptials, the now-princess picked Zuhair Murad with a splash of crystals across the front and a sash that flowed in the wind. Dreamy.

This royal owns her own boutique, making New York Fashion Week a work trip. She dresses to impress and routinely catches the eyes of street style photographers, making it a no-brainer to anoint her with the title of best-dressed royal at NYFW. There were strong moments throughout the entire week, but this electric blue Rosie Assoulin number was our favorite.

7. Queen Maxima's culottes

The Netherlands' Queen Maxima is a fashion plate we love keeping tabs on (she's so impeccably turned out, we've yet to see the woman wear a pair of jeans!). The year was filled with chic moments for her, but there's one that deserves extra attention: Yes, that's a pair of satiny slick culottes, worn with a bold floral top to a children's concert. Love.

8. Princess Victoria's maternity style (especially this pillbox hat look)

Currently expecting her second child, Princess Victoria's pregnancy style has been pretty flawless. It was a close tie between this inky purple-blue dress and the under-$100 ASOS dress she had shortened, but we're most besotted with this polished pick due to the finishing touch. How Jackie Kennedy is that pillbox hat?

9. Princess Mette-Marit's boho-chic dress, worn to Beatrice Borromeo's wedding

Of all the royal families in attendance at Beatrice Borromeo's summer wedding to Pierre Casiraghi, it was Norway's princess who impressed us the most. Her dress was delicate, floaty, and ultra-romantic—and instead of a high-wattage tiara, she went with a sweet crown of blush roses.

10. Kate Middleton's custom Jenny Packham, worn to a state banquet at Buckingham Palace

Even though the first thing to steal our attention about Kate's appearance at October's state banquet was her tiara (as a rule, she doesn't like to wear them very often), we were quickly distracted by the poppy-red Jenny Packham gown she picked. The full, flowing skirt was perfect for a princess, and we loved the bold color on her.

Ever since her sublimely stunning wedding dress, Kate Middleton's name has been associated with Alexander McQueen. The Duchess of Cambridge wears the house frequently (including for both of her little ones' christenings), but one silhouette stands out from the pack: the always classy, perfectly tailored coatdress. With a neat tailored look that adds instant formality, it's today's version of a skirt suit for modern royals—and a new princess just added it to her closet!

Norway's Princess Mette-Marit seemed to take a lot of inspiration from Kate, wearing a crisp white Alexander McQueen dress that could have been plucked straight from the closets at apartment 1A. It fits her like a dream, with a skinny belt acting as an elegant accessory that defines her figure. The all-black accessories are also a major British royal styling trick.

The Norwegian royal chose the look for this year's Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo, keeping things regal for the occasion with a thick headband that mimics a tiara. Notice the peaked shoulders of her jacket, creating a strong shape in the same way shoulder pads did in the '80s? It's a total McQueen signature.

Mette-Marit's white style reminded us of Kate for not only her christening dresses (both cream to match the robe George and Charlotte wore), but also for the bold peplum style she picked for the Order of the Garter ceremony in 2012. Beside her and also rocking the coatdress is Sophie, Countess of Wessex, a Queen Elizabeth confidante who's been quite open about how fashion fits into the royal lifestyle.

For an official engagement last fall it was another McQueen number for Kate, and the basic cut of this one is a lot like the style we just saw in Norway. It's a perfect example of why the style is such a no-brainer for professional and formal occasions: Kate could be wearing a basic dress or outfit underneath it, but the flared skirt and nipped waist are so similar to a classic dress that it doesn't feel off at all when the piece is left buttoned throughout an entire ceremony.

Coatdresses vary in weight and coverage too, with Kate's lighter favorites appearing as a basic dress at first glance. Conversely, the Duchess has also worn thicker pieces as actual coats. Remember this cornflower blue beauty? You can clearly see she's got an actual dress on underneath.

The coatdress tops our list of princess closet essentials. Come see the other six items every chic royal counts on.
