Kendall Jenner Just Let Us in on a MAJOR Clueless Fashion Fact

admin
299

You guys, Kendall just unloaded a mind-blowing Clueless fashion fact on us today via her app. Remember the amazing gold chain holster Cher held her cell phone in during the movie's famous tennis court scene ("There goes your social life")? The supermodel and bestie of Chanel maestro Karl Lagerfeld clued us into the fact that the designer was so inspired by that Coco-reminiscent, long chain holster that he decided to create one himself after watching the cultural touchstone.

But that's not the only tasty nugget the current Vogue cover star had to share: She also notes that Cher's pure white Calvin Klein dress (the one that befuddled her father, producing one of the greatest interactions in cinematic history) attained so much throwback hype in 2010 that the brand rereleased it. Here's hoping they do it again!

Not only are we happy to include Snapchat's newest member in our fashion history-obsessed circle, but we're glad to have yet another reason justifying why Clueless is, was, and will be an influence on what we wear—even to Ms. Jenner who, fun fact, was born the same year the film was released! We look forward to more of her pearls of wisdom, even ones she didn't actually live through.

Your Hoodies Have the Chanel Stamp of Approval

Your Hoodies Have the Chanel Stamp of Approval
Kendall Jenner in the fall 2016 Chanel show.

You probably have a hoodie or two in your closet—whether it's your latest athleisure buy, or a leftover from college. And if you saw the fall 2016 Balenciaga show, you know that, along with normcore parkas, puffers and oversized toppers, this zip-up weekend piece you've kept in your wardrobe is officially cool (again).

Karl Lagerfeld just cemented that notion with his fall 2016 Chanel show earlier today. His riff on the look was a petal-pink cropped style—worn by Kendall Jenner in the show—and he paired it with a matching midi dress. But we could also totally see someone like Kendall wearing it with a pair of her favorite leggings.

Your Hoodies Have the Chanel Stamp of Approval

The hoodie in general is a really good transitional piece—layer it under a coat now on cooler days, and wear it on its own when it gets a bit warmer—and the idea of a more dressed-up style a la Chanel sharing closet space with your more casual sweatshirts is a fun one. This spring, go forth and hoodie.

Willow Smith Is the New Face of Chanel, Announced as Brand Ambassador
Smith at the Chanel show in paris this morning.

So much Chanel news today out of Paris, but this has to be our favorite bit. Willow Smith was just named an ambassador for the brand. The teen joins the ranks of Lily Rose Depp, Keira Knightley and a host of cool women, hand-picked by Karl Lagerfeld to represent the esteemed fashion house. Smith attended the Chanel show this morning at Paris Fashion Week with her mother Jada Pinkett-Smith, wearing a sleek black mesh catsuit that she dubbed "Chanel ninja." At only 15, Smith's fashion career is picking up major steam. Soon after landing the Marc Jacobs fall ad campaign and the cover of iD magazine in September 2015, she signed on with Society Management, the modeling agency that represents Kendall Jenner and Adriana Lima.

See the sweet way she announced the news on her Instagram:

Karl Lagerfeld Has Some Very Specific Ideas on How to Carry Your Chanel Handbag

admin

Over time we've learned that the way you carry your handbags actually says a lot about your personality.

Going cross-body says you're an "urban warrior", while throwing it over your shoulder says that you embrace functionality, Kathlyn Hendricks, Ph.D., who specializes in body language told Glamour last year.

But today's Chanel show at Paris Fashion Week presented a new way to wear your shoulder bag—like a football. As you can tell from the styling here, Karl Lagerfeld wants you to carry your handbag in the crook of your arm, á la Tom Brady going for the touchdown. What this says about your personality? Well, perhaps that you prefer fashion over function. Perhaps it speaks to your penchant for football. Either way, let this be your excuse to peruse the latest gorgeous bags from Chanel.

Done in tweed, denim, suede—they're all quite decadent and dreamy. And for the record, Karl, we'd be happy to carry any of these satchels in any way you like. Yes, even as a necklace.

Chanel Had Only Front Row Seating at its Fall Show. Here’s Who Was in It!

The throngs of style-setters who packed into the Grand Palais earlier today for Chanel’s fall/winter 2016 runway spectacular got a few major surprises in the front row: an enviably chic mommy-and-me moment courtesy of Jada and Willow Smith; Pharrell, who made a checkered tweed peacoat thrown over jeans and a T-shirt look natural; and, to everyone else's delight, that they were sitting right next to them!

Okay, maybe not right next to them, but the entire crowd was seated in the same row—styled like a '50s French salon to mirror the collection harkening back to the Coco days—as the fashionable celebs in Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld’s attempt at establishing a fashion democracy. While this isn’t the first time a designer has chosen this seating arrangement to show a collection, it does seem like this is Lagerfeld’s timely commentary on how undemocratic the fashion system has become (an argument many have blamed for the departure of Raf Simons and Alber Elbaz from Dior and Lanvin, respectively). With his characteristically A-list attendance, seating everyone equally is his double C-minted way of combatting the issue.

All the better for star gazing (where can we get Willow’s electric blue eyeliner? Will she be the new face of Chanel?) and getting an up-close-and-personal look at the clothes we’ll eventually want to wear (we’re calling throwback bowler hats as fall’s dark horse trend). If establishing a more egalitarian show format will save fashion and get us closer to it, we’re totally on board.

This is What the Chanel Runway Looked Like in 1996

You can bet on seeing a few constants at every Chanel show.

Chain link details, doses of tweed, cap-toe footwear of some sort, and the iconic interlocking C logo on displayed in myriad news ways are all but guaranteed to be present at tomorrow's show at Paris Fashion Week. But beyond those essentials, designer Karl Lagerfeld is adept at taking our breath away with his over-the-top concepts. Whether it's shipping an actual iceberg into Paris' famed Grand Palais (it happened in fall 2010) or re-creating a supermarket replete with Chanel-branded groceries (true story, fall 2014), we can't wait to see what The Kaiser has in store for tomorrow's show. Until then, let's take a walk down memory lane to see what the Chanel runway looked like in 1996.

With Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, pigtails, and yes, pasties, it's most definitely a feast for the eyes.

Which Oscars Red Carpet Dress Has Kendall Jenner Worn Before?

admin

No, you didn't miss anything: Kendall Jenner was not on tonight's Oscars red carpet. But, style-wise, her spirit was there in a way—a perennial best-dressed list member wore a dress Kendall's rocked before!

If Julianne Moore's sparkly, floor-length Chanel number gave you a sense of deja vu, blame it on Kendall. The gown is from the house's spring 2016 couture collection, and the model that walked it down the runway was none other than KJ. There are some slight differences between both (the one we saw tonight has slightly different colored beading and the neckline is a touch more modest), but there's a ton of shared DNA.

Here's Julianne in the gown:

We won't waste any space by asking who wore it better because, clearly, both women looked stunning.

This ’90s Denim Trend Is Making a Comeback—Will You Try It?

One of the most extreme 90s trends was JNCO jeans. You know the ones: Slouchy, ultra wide leg, with an elongated pocket or two—favored by raver kids and skater boys alike. This was one look we thought we'd left behind...until now.

The spring runways showed echoes of these uber wide-leg denims (albeit chicer versions that one would actually want to wear now): Chanel opted for a printed wash, Chloé showed an athleisure-inspired silhouette, and Dries van Noten offered a more tailored, pleat-front style. When trying out this trend, though, don't hold back. The more exaggerated, the better. Channel your inner '90s club kid and you may just fall in love with this retro off-duty denim style again.

Date-Night Outfit Inspiration: Unexpectedly Cool Outfits to Try This Weekend

When it comes to date-night dressing, you can always fall back on a flirty little dress or a favorite top and dark pair of skinnies. Still, there's always an opportunity to try something different, and the past 24 hours have turned up plenty of inspiration for out-of-the-box styling. From Blake Lively proving a turtleneck can be sexy and chic, to Jessica Alba's stunning take on lamé and Amal Clooney's splash of leopard, we're loving what these ladies wore for nights out on the town. Plus, we've got intel on what one famous reality sister wore out today, and it might be the freshest idea for a Valentine's Day date outfit that we've seen recently.

Jessica caught Saint Laurent's fall '16 menswear show in Los Angeles last night looking totally ready to pop out for drinks and dancing after. She played with one of this spring's sexiest little trends—the slip dress—but turned it rock-n-roll by opting for a floor-length style in a stagelight-bright metallic. A classic black leather jacket finished off the look.

Prepare to reconsider when and where the turtleneck is appropriate. The staple has been steadily creeping its way into the shopping mainstream, but it's still mostly regarded as as prim piece for layering or keeping cozy on weekend days at home. Blake cast an entirely different light on the piece in this Chanel couture dress, with the high neckline appearing as the epitome of chic. Recreate sans runway items by tucking a knit into your own embellished skirt or layering one over a sequined cocktail dress.

Amal took advantage of an airport moment to make a major style statement, picking mid-calf leopard-print boots to add a jolt of something extra to her otherwise all-black look (notwithstanding the jaunty camel cap, a hue echoed by the base shade of her shoes). It took something seriously eye-catching to distract us from her Altuzarra bag, but the boots managed to pull it off. The takeaway? Bold accessories turn closet basics into a wow-worthy look.

If you're wistful for the days of little white dresses, please pay attention to what Kylie Jenner pulled together when leaving her New York City hotel this morning. The floaty, lacy LWD is definitely summer-appropriate, but by replacing flat sandals with sexy over-the-knee boots and pulling on a tailored topper, the delicate dress is ready for significantly chillier temps. (P.S.: That dress looks like it's the one from their new collection; pre-order it here).

If you're still on the hunt for more cool winter date ideas, consider Adriana Lima's steamy take on the naked dress.

The Tweed Jacket Is Back: How to Pull Off the ’90s Fashion Favorite Right Now

Look back into at any '90s It Girl's wardrobe and you'll find one of these: A classic tweed blazer.

Tweed jackets were first popularized by Coco Chanel at the turn on the 20th century, but it wasn't until the '90s that the once prim and proper outerwear became cool and youthful. It all started in spring 1994, when Karl Lagerfeld sent out a spring collection of sexy, fun, and youthful tweed suits, crop tops and bralettes on supermodels Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Nadja Aurmann, and Cindy Crawford. After that, everyone wanted a tweed jacket in their style arsenals to wear with jeans and flats.

So we're pleased to report the trend is back with a vengeance. Style stars Clemence Poesy, Charlotte Le Bon and others rocked their Chanel tweed à la '90s, with everything from jeans to wide-leg trousers. Here's how to rock the look right now:

The spring 2016 couture shows are coming to a close in Paris and this season brought more than just dramatic, embellished-to-the-hilt dresses—the week also brought a fair share of did-that-just-happen? moments.

From Rita Ora's barely-there cocktail dress at Atelier Versace, to Cara Delevingne's furry plus-one in the Chanel Couture front row, there's lots to discuss. So, here's everything you need to know about fashion's most decadent week, not to mention some jaw-dropping dresses that rightfully earn the badge of couture.

1. Versace

Donatella Versace twisted and slashed the most delicate silk fabric, piecing the strips together with crystal-studded ropes, giving notions of a very chic shipwrecked woman. Rita Ora has first dibs on the collection, wearing wore the orange Atelier Versace cutout number to the show before it was even seen on the runway. It was the kind of look that has everyone hold their breaths and watch for a wardrobe malfunction. But the dress defied any sudden breeze or tug and stayed put.

2. Chanel

Karl Lagerfeld is of the more-is-more school of thought, and his latest couture collection for Chanel reflected the maxim—and then some. The show, which took the famed Grand Palais, took on a garden theme, and all of your favorite fashion stars were there.

3. Dior

Dior was on the quiet side this season, as an in-house team designed the collection after the departure of creative director Raf Simons last fall. A new designer is yet to be announced, but until then the line was elegant, yet modern, echoing the longstanding traditions of the French house.

The new year is almost here, and we've been feeling all sorts of reflective, looking back on the fashion news stories and red-carpet dresses that made 2015. A major red-carpet dress theft? Check. Confusing retirement reports for one of today's biggest supermodels? Check. Seriously: There was a ton.

We rounded up the most significant moments earlier this month, presenting them primed for reflection and voting. You came, saw, and clicked—now come see the winners.

Most Memorable Red Carpet Dress of 2015
You Voted, We Listened: These Are the Biggest Fashion Moments of 2015
Dakota Johnson is the big winner! She looked resplendent in high-shine, metallic silver Chanel at the Golden Globes, claiming 40 percent of your votes. Coming in as a clear second-place winner was Lily James and the breathtaking ballgown she wore for a Cinderella premiere (the world's never seen a red-carpet gown more fitting for a film).

Biggest Fashion News Story of 2015
You Voted, We Listened: These Are the Biggest Fashion Moments of 2015
The year had a ton of action, from multiple models retiring to Reese Witherspoon's entrance into the fashion sphere (and Justin Bieber eliciting death threats for a top model). Still, the newsy nugget that made the biggest collective impression on you? Derek Zoolander and Hansel (cough—Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson) parading down Valentino's fall 2015 runway (they scored 33.33 percent of votes). Sports Illustrated's plus-size model moments and H&M's Balmain collaboration tied for the silver-medal.

Best Royal Style Moment of 2015
You Voted, We Listened: These Are the Biggest Fashion Moments of 2015
With two nominations, the odds were in Kate Middleton's favor of taking the top spot. She grabbed it with with a wide lead, coming in first with 45 percent of the votes for the bright red Jenny Packham gown she wore for her first big state banquet. The dress was stunning, but had some accessories help too: The event marked only the third time she'd ever worn a tiara. The Alexander McQueen dress she wore to Princess Charlotte's christening was your second favorite; Princess Mary's breathtaking New Year's Day combo took third place.

Most OMG-Worthy Red Carpet Moment of 2015
You Voted, We Listened: These Are the Biggest Fashion Moments of 2015
The jewels on the Versace dress Miley Cyrus wore to the Video Music Awards left little to the imagination, making it little surprise that she won the race here (she scored 42 percent of all votes). She was the award show's host, so a big fashion splash was inevitable; this one might have been zaniest, but she had a few other major style moments throughout the night. Another naked dress came in second place too—Beyonce's super sheer Givenchy.

Planning out the perfect New Year's Eve outfit? We've got 8 outfits you can put together with pieces you've already got in your closet (plus 21 budget-friendly styles you can hit the shops for now).

Taking a long look back at the year, there were a lot of major style moments on the red carpet. Some were sublimely beautiful, a few monumental for what they stood for, and others packed more wow-factor than we ever thought possible. Here, in no particular order, the gowns and dresses that had us talking this year. After your spin down memory lane, be sure to vote on which you think is the top attention-grabber of the year.

1. Lupita Nyong'o's pearl-covered Calvin Klein gown, worn to this year's Academy Awards
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
Even if the pearly beauty left fashion watchers divided, the dress caused a big media storm when it went missing. Valued at $150,000, it got police attention...and was later found in a bathroom at the hotel where the actress was staying.

2. Amal Clooney's tiered Maison Margiela dress, worn to this year's Met Gala
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
The new Mrs. Clooney made a stylish stir whenever she stepped out this year, but it was her red carpet style we were most excited to finally see. At the Met Gala, the fashion world's biggest red carpet, she picked a strapless Maison Margiela couture dress by John Galliano with tiered ruffles that extended from her waist to the floor.

3. Rihanna's yellow Guo Pei gown, worn to this year's Met Gala
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
We knew Rihanna would wear something major the event, and the cascading, canary yellow gown she wore did not disappoint. It was by Chinese couturier Guo Pei; after the fact we learned that the designer didn't really think RiRi should wear this one, calling it "too heavy and too hot."

4. Kim Kardashian West's sheer Roberto Cavalli by Peter Dundas gown, worn to this year's Met Gala
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
The other Met Gala dress the internet couldn't stop buzzing over belonged to Kardashian West, who hopped on the sheer, feather-trimmed bandwagon with this ethereal dress. It was super glam, and, per KKW's Instagram, inspired by a dress worn by Cher to the first ever Met.

5. Lily James' sparkly Elie Saab gown, worn to the Los Angeles premiere of Cinderella
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
Has there ever been a premiere dress more fitting than this? James' tour for the live-action flick was supremely stylish, but it was this Cinderella-like gown that made all of our jaws drop. She kept the theme going all the way down to her toes too, shod by he of the modern-day glass slipper, Christian Louboutin.

6. Caitlyn Jenner's white Atelier Versace gown, worn to this year's ESPY Awards
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
There was a near fever pitch to see what Jenner would wear to her first red carpet, and this striking Versace gown didn't disappoint. The dress had similarities to one Angelina Jolie wore for a film premiere years prior, a not-so-surprising fact when Jenner revealed she sought out Jolie's stylist because she admired the actress' red-carpet vibe. The dress was custom-made for Jenner.

7. Kate Middleton's flowing Jenny Packham dress, worn to the London premiere of Spectre
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
Unlike most of our favorite Hollywood types, Kate Middleton rarely makes proper red-carpet appearances. Tons of official obligations that offer up workwear inspiration, yes, but not always super-glam evening events. When she and Prince William attended the U.K. premiere of the latest James Bond flick, the world sighed over this fluid Jenny Packham gown.

8. Naomi Watts' feathered Elie Saab gown, worn to this year's Cannes Film Festival
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
The red carpet at Cannes is reliably stunning, but it was this voluminous, steel gray feather-skirted dress that topped our best-dressed list.

9. Dakota Johnson's silver Chanel dress, worn to this year's Golden Globes
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
Thanks to a little something called 50 Shades of Grey, this was Johnson's big red-carpet debut year. She skipped voluminous ballgowns, showing a penchant for simple shapes and solids instead; her sparkliest moment came at the Globes thanks to high-wattage silver.

10. Taylor Swift's high-low Elie Saab gown, worn to this year's Grammy Awards
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
Swift showed off her stems in this party-in-the-front pick. From the side and back the teal gown looked like something fit for a princess, but a frontal shot reveals a cheeky miniskirt moment that no royal would dare. Yup—it takes an American princess to pull this one off.

11. Allison Williams' high-volume Giambattista Valli gown, worn to this year's Met Gala
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
The year's red carpets had lots of striking, romantic moments for Miss Williams—practice for her big wedding day moment, perhaps?

12. Jennifer Lopez's beige Elie Saab gown, worn to this year's Academy Awards
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
We've spent serious time tracking just how much J-Lo loves a sheer dress moment, but she went a bit different for this year's Academy Awards (though still just as sexy, natch). Aside from a seductively low neckline, this gown kept things covered up with a full skirt that kept her dancer's legs hidden.

13. Vanessa Hudgens' floral-print Naeem Khan gown, worn to this year's Tony Awards
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
After making her Broadway debut in Gigi, Hudgens was ready to play the part of budding starlet again, making this feminine number so on-point.

14. Nicki Minaj's black Tom Ford dress, worn to this year's Grammy Awards
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
While the rapper's given us some boundary-pushing looks over the year, it's these pared-back looks that really shine. Her Grammys choice was supremely sexy, but elegant too, with a fringed skirt made of light-catching sequins.

15. Charlize Theron's bright yellow Dior gown, worn to this year's Cannes Film Festival
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
As the star of this year's Mad Max reboot, it only made sense for Theron to seriously stand out. She did so in a strapless, sunshine-yellow gown with a train that extended feet behind her.

16. Diane Kruger's caped Prada dress, worn to this year's Venice Film Festival
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
Forever polished, it's no surprise to see Kruger with a handful of red carpet wins. This year was no exception, though it's this retro-inspired stunner that made us gasp the most. It's a study in contrasts of sorts, with a color that's hard to pin down between pale pink, icy silver, and pure white. And while the shape and caped back look plucked from a vintage collection, the exposed skin at her side feels decidedly of this century.

17. Jennifer Lawrence's sheer Schiaparelli gown, worn to the New York premiere of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
It's the last time we'll see Lawrence promote The Hunger Games, and she went out with a bang, wearing gorgeous dress after gorgeous dress. It was one of her latest that really grabbed us: How pretty-sexy is this long-sleeve, sheer Schiaparelli dress?

18. Rihanna's voluminous Giambattista Valli gown, worn to this year's Grammy Awards
