The Best Spring ’16 Runway Looks Were Made Pint-Size for Barbie

As one of the world's most classic fashion icons, it only makes sense that Barbie should have her pick of spring 2016's best designer looks (and yes, be Fashion Week-ready). The pocket-size fashion plate is having her moment right now, showing off stylish looks made miniature for her by the likes of Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs, and Balmain's Olivier Rousteing, and let's not beat around the bush: She slays.

Even in plastic the Yahoo Style shoot perfectly captures fashion's current focus on a variety of sizes and shapes. The original blond-haired, blue-eyed Barbie is on hand, but Mattel's newest members of the crew are outfitted in high-end looks as well (Tall Barbie is in Sonia Rykiel; Curvy Barbie is in Marc Jacobs). The new set of dolls was big news last month, and extracted equal amounts of praise and anger from the doll-shopping public. A real-life Barbie—Ferreira of Aerie's most recent stunning ads—gave us her two cents, chalking any backlash up to people being afraid of change.

When you're looking at all the looks (see them here), know that they're close replicas of the pieces sent down the runways last fall. The Rick Owens dress that paraded down the catwalk in Paris is pretty much the same as the number seen on Barbie (thankfully, the people-as-backpacks moment wasn't shrunken down). The sexy Balmain creation—a suede halter-neck bodysuit and cage skirt—is also identical to the tiny new piece. Even the shoes are the same!

Bryce Dallas Howard Bought Another Red Carpet Dress And Here’s Why We Love Her For It

Buying your own red-carpet dress is officially a thing. Bryce Dallas Howard looked sophisticated in black Balmain on last night's Critics' Choice Awards red carpet, and she wasn't shy about telling the fashion press that she purchased the dress herself to avoid sizing constraints. Again.

"I've alluded to this a little bit before, but when you're not a sample size or if you don't have a direct relationship with a designer or if you don't have a lot of notice—those size six dresses aren't available," she said. Her v-neck dress—a flattering wrap style with a bold star on the left hip—was purchased from Forward by Elyse Walker and is still up on the store's site, retailing for $1,300.

The first time Howard revealed her shopping secret was at this year's Golden Globes, where the actress identified her Jenny Packham gown as having been purchased at Neiman Marcus. Similar to last night's off-the-cuff moment, she told reporters that if she wanted options, she had to take matters into her own hands. "I like having lots of options for a size six as opposed to maybe one option."

Now joining the upper ranks of the Balmain army: Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, and Claudia Schiffer. The latest Balmain campaign was released today and it feels like the best kind of time warp! Olivier Rousteing let his favorite lady Kendall Jenner have the day off in favor of some of our all-time favorite '90s muses, and notes distributed from the house portray the designer's excitement at working with the iconic trio.

"While we shot these images, I had to smile as I imagined how my adolescent self would have reacted with utter disbelief if someone could have traveled back in time to tell me that one day I would be in a New York studio, watching Steven Klein shoot Cindy, Claudia, and Naomi for my spring 2016 campaign," he wrote. "Those four singular talents have inspired me from day one. To say that working with them was a dream come true is no exaggeration."

The Balmain Army Has Invaded Kim Kardashian West’s Mobile Game: See Pictures!

It was inevitable, really—the Balmain army has invaded Kim Kardashian West's wildly popular mobile game. The reality family has established ties with the brand and creative director Olivier Rousteing, with all members reliably wearing it for red-carpet appearances (most recently, Kylie Jenner in a long-sleeve, below-the-knee black dress at GQ's Men of the Year bash). And while catwalk queen Kendall Jenner is the indisputable five-star general of the stylish crew—Rousteing said it was imperative she star in the H&M collab campaign because "she is the most important; she is an icon"—it doesn't look like she gets a new outfit.

Kardashian West's avatar, however, does get an outfit switch-up. The black, white, and red cape dress she wore to last year's VMAs is faithfully recreated right down to the strappy sandals.

The handsome Rousteing also has his mini-me ready to play in the sort of v-neck sweater, skinny jeans, and ankle boots you can spot him wearing frequently on Instagram. It sounds like he's an integral part of the game too, with the Balmain outfits surrounding a story line that'll have players walking the catwalk and posing for cameras in an attempt to land a Balmain contract.

Other looks you'll see when gaming? There are 20 looks from the fall 2015 collection, a celeb-beloved range that was worn out, like, hours after it walked the runway. Ten outfits for the guys are also being included.

How Balmain Creative Director Olivier Rousteing Conquered Instagram

admin
296

Olivier Rousteing is one of the most-followed designers on Instagram. ("My cell phone is my orgasm," he admits.) Let the Balmain creative director tell you how he did it...just by being himself.
As told to Jane Keltner de Valle

I joined Instagram on September 6, 2012. I felt like the press was trying to depict me one way, and I didn't want to become this little prince from Paris who has this expensive French house. That isn't what I wanted people to get from me. So with Instagram I could show other parts of my personality—and the life that I love. The first photo I posted was of my embroidery designer; it was her birthday.

How Balmain Creative Director Olivier Rousteing Conquered Instagram

No Social Media? No Fun!: Rousteing (@olivier_rousteing) with his #BalmainArmy backstage at the Balmain x H&M show, from left, Jourdan Dunn, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, and Alessandra Ambrosio. "I like strong women," he says. "Fashion is more than just wearing sequined dresses."

Everybody at Balmain was really nervous at first. No one got it. They were like, "Either you're going to ruin your image and destroy the brand, or no one is going to care." But it made this big impact from day one; it started to grow and grow. Now you can see the Instagrams of so many designers who are doing the same as me: taking pictures of themselves on the beach, with their friends who are famous or not famous, sharing their dog, what they eat, that they're hungover. But I was like this lab rat.

The moment that was the true launch of my Instagram is when Rihanna came to my studio and posted pictures of herself with me; I think people started to know who I was. Then I met Kim [Kardashian West] at the Met Ball with Kanye, and we had this instant connection. The Met Gala can be intimidating because there are so many actors, singers, stars. You step on a dress, it's Taylor Swift, and you're like, "Oh, I'm sorry." Maybe you bump into Beyoncé by mistake: "Oh, I apologize!" Kim and I were shy together, so we clicked. Then she invited me to an Armenian restaurant in L.A. with her family, and I met Kris [Jenner] and fell in love. Kris built an amazing family—I love them all.

I come from an orphanage in France. My parents are white; I'm black. I think it's a pretty unique story—where I came from and where I am now. When I was younger, I tried to hide it. But now I use my background more as a strength than a weakness. I always repeat to myself: Even though I don't know where I come from, I know where I want to go. My parents help remind me of that. I think it's important for me to give this positive message to people that the future can be better than the past. And it's thanks to Instagram that I've been able to communicate that.

I cast all different kinds of girls. Promoting diversity in fashion is important to me because it's part of who I am. Sometimes in fashion you feel like they try to make you forget your color, and if there's one thing I don't want to forget, it's my color. I'm proud, and I'm going to express it. I love, in the nineties, when there were all those top models: Cindy, Claudia, Naomi. Those girls are strong, they have a personality, and they made fashion popular. I am pushing the same kind of aesthetic. Now it's everyone from Gigi Hadid to Kendall Jenner to Jourdan Dunn.

Some people are like, "Oh my God, you're famous because you're friends with famous people." I think they don't understand the process. I have no problem sharing my personality, my dreams, my coffee, my selfies, the behind-the-scenes of my show, everything that's part of my life—and I think that's why I'm a success on Instagram. I want to share everything I have. People identify with me because of that, whereas a lot of designers are untouchable. I think that's old and part of another generation, and people don't connect.

So many designers are trying to please only the front row and the fashion elite. I have so much fun when I read critics who despise my shows. They're like, "That's not good, that's not new, that's not the new generation. He cares more about likes than reviews." You just want to tell them, "Babe, you have been in the same world for, like, 40 years. Fashion is changing, and from this moment you're going to understand who's going to be part of the train, who's going to follow the train, and who's going to actually stay at home." Fashion needs a revolution.

A lot of people in the industry don't get that this "squad" is also my business. Those regrams and likes translate into sales. At the last show buyers were requesting the dresses the girls wore to the after-party; they saw them on Instagram and wanted to get them. Before, people were buying clothes because they wanted to look like a magazine editorial. Now they go with the iPhone and show Instagram. It's changing fashion completely.

I read a review by a critic who was laughing about me and saying my fashion show is about thinking how it's going to look on Instagram. Actually, she was not wrong. When you get 50,000 likes on one jacket because you thought of how the jacket is on this girl and how the light is going to reflect the jacket—I really don't see the problem with thinking about that.

Instagram is connected to reality for so many different people; it allows me to connect with an audience and spread a positive message. If I had to live for one year without sex or a cell phone, I'd rather choose no sex. My cell phone is my orgasm.

The Very Best of Naomie Harris’ Spectacular Spectre Red Carpet Looks

admin

Popular opinion might lead you to believe the James Bond franchise is all about a very dashing super spy guy, but on the red carpet it's anything but. The women associated with the super spy are characteristically gorgeous (and lethal), but their wardrobes deserve just as much attention as any other aspect. Now that the red carpet marathon surrounding 007's latest, Spectre, has wrapped up, we're devoting some time to browsing through some of the very best Bond Girl looks Naomie Harris gave us because, seriously, they're too good not to.

The Very Best of Naomie Harris' Spectacular Spectre Red Carpet Looks
For one of her last red-carpet appearances to promote the movie, she wore a strapless Roksanda dress in vivid electric blue and black. It was one of her most daring selections, with folds at the front that added various levels and high-shine leather that called attention to her bust. Her ankle-strap sandals are Giuseppe Zanotti.

The Very Best of Naomie Harris' Spectacular Spectre Red Carpet Looks
For a premiere in Mexico City she went neutral, picking this epically woven Balmain gown. After the label's insane H&M collaboration, anyone would be forgiven for thinking the house primarily worked in bold colors and lots of heavy embellishments. This warm tan pick feels refreshingly different, yet just as sexy.

The Very Best of Naomie Harris' Spectacular Spectre Red Carpet Looks
It was grassy green Lanvin at a more casual event preceeding that stop's premiere showing. With expertly done darts and pleating, the silhouette was elevated way above a simple shift into something that looked made for her figure.

While in Moscow she went high-wattage with a long sleeve golden Michael Kors dress.

The Very Best of Naomie Harris' Spectacular Spectre Red Carpet Looks
The serious glam was put away for something a bit more cheeky when the cast attended a daytime event (those are co-stars Ralph Fiennes and Dave Bautista she's with). In lieu of a cocktail frock she picked a citrus-colored Altuzarra suit and bright Sophia Webster heels.

The Very Best of Naomie Harris' Spectacular Spectre Red Carpet Looks
Harris had a little fairytale princess moment in Berlin, wearing a Valentino gown with a celestial feel to it. The actual dress (available for purchase here) might be a bit too scandalous for most royals due to the fully sheer skirt.

The Very Best of Naomie Harris' Spectacular Spectre Red Carpet Looks
And hurrah for the classic American designer she sported in Switzerland! At Spectre's Zurich premiere she looked stunning in a striped blue and white Ralph Lauren Collection ballgown that featured a saucy leg slit.

The Very Best of Naomie Harris' Spectacular Spectre Red Carpet Looks
The movie had a royal moment at its London premiere, when Kate Middleton and Prince William attended. While the Duchess' sheer powder blue Jenny Packham might have been the most buzzed-about dress from the red carpet, Harris' striking orange Stella McCartney gown was phenomenal as well. Her diamonds were Harry Winston.

The Very Best of Naomie Harris' Spectacular Spectre Red Carpet Looks
After the party was the after party, and the actress ditched the long style in favor of a super sexy Thierry Mugler mini. If you examine closely, you'll see that it's actually various squares held together at the corner, making for lots of seductive little flashes of skin. Her clutch is Jimmy Choo and shoes are from Gisueppe Zanotti.

The Very Best of Naomie Harris' Spectacular Spectre Red Carpet Looks
And for one of her very first spots supporting the movie, also in London, she wore a black and orange Christian Dior mini with lace-up black heels. Gorgeous example of how well bright colors look at a formal event, no?

Another movie that's meant big fashion? The Hunger Games, now in its final round of red-carpet premieres and bringing us tons of good style moments.

The Balmain x H&M collaboration hit stores today and to no one's surprise, things got cray, real fast. Balmain's creative director Olivier Rousteing was good for his word, stopping by a Paris store to take in the scene. He entered through a back entrance early in the morning ("for security reasons") and took a selfie with a super-fan who had been waiting since 2 p.m. Wednesday. Yikes.

The collab launched in 250 stores across 61 countries; we have an official ask out to H&M for details on where demand was greatest and how quickly things sold-out and will update you as we learn more. Pieces aren't likely to be restocked (it's not been done for past collections), and they've definitely already hit resale sites. The beaded long-sleeve mini dress was the range's most expensive piece, retailing for approximately $570. You're out of luck if you want to pop into your neighborhood H&M and grab one, but you can find it on eBay...for $1,500.

The below shopping scene is from Turkey's largest H&M and watching it is equal parts hypnotic and terrifying.

Lines were huge globally, though they couldn't have grown much larger than what the Paris store saw. H&M had coffee et croissants on hand for early arrivals (and a ton of security), but WWD reported there was still a several hours-long wait to get in by mid-morning. London saw huge crowds too.

Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing is proving to be fashion's own very Energizer Bunny. After a whirlwind month (showing his spring collection in Paris two weeks ago, then this past week, debuting Balmain x H&M with a killer runway show and hello, a performance by the Backstreet Boys) he just keeps going and going. The Paris-based Rousteing flew out west this weekend to celebrate his 30th birthday on Friday night with his most major devotees—whom he affectionately calls the Balmain Army (his actual birthday was on September 13, but who's counting?). Unsurprisingly, the "Army" turned out in some pretty incredibly outfits. We're another day closer to the launch of Balmain's H&M collaboration on Nov. 5, and last night marked a pretty massive event in the run-up: Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing staged a runway show in downtown New York City that was filled with a truckload of supermodels, front row celebrities, and...the Backstreet Boys.

To start, let's talk runway. Kendall Jenner, the collab's campaign star who Rousteing called "the most important," opened and was followed directly by fellow campaign faces Jourdan Dunn and Gigi Hadid. Other big names that walked? Alessandra Ambrosio, Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls, Constance Jablonski, Jessica Stam, Daphne Groeneveld, Bella Hadid, and Devon Windsor.

Can you feel that guys? It's the distant thunder caused by the footsteps of the Balmain army, heading straight toward us and set to arrive on Nov. 5. The H&M collaboration is this close to landing, and we're celebrating with new tidbits every day (including the gorgeous images released last week and the campaign pics we've seen with Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, and Jourdan Dunn). With another fresh batch of pics to drool over and interesting facts spilled from the label's creative director, Olivier Rousteing, we thought we'd do you a solid and collect all the prime bits here.

There's a runway show happening tomorrow.
The campaign stars will walk, as will other "supermodels" according to Rousteing. The location? Downtown New York City.

Rousteing wanted the collection to be even larger and the dresses even shorter.
H&M execs said the designer was a dream to work with, though they did have to rein him in a touch. "He wanted to make a really big collection," H&M creative adviser Ann-Sofie Johansson told WWD. "He wanted everything to be super short. We want short as well, but you have to be able to move in the dress."

The Balmain x H&M Collaboration: New Pictures, Prices, Kendall Jenner Campaign News

The prices are a little bit higher than other H&M collabs.
A black and white dress from the range, with 250,000 hand-sewn beads, is the most expensive piece and will run around $570. A t-shirt with the Balmain logo is going to be right around $35.

It was mega important that Kendall Jenner be in the campaign.
Rousteing said it was vital that the campaign show the spirit of the Balmain Army and, as such, Jenner had to be the leader. "She is the most important. She is an icon, I'm inspired by her. For me she is the new Naomi, Claudia, Cindy," he told Yahoo Style, noting that she "has an amazing soul and is so supportive."

Rousteing is ready and waiting for your Instagrams and selfies.
Rousteing is a huge Instagrammer (one of the few designers to crack the one-million club, natch), and he's already trolling for 'grams. "I'm already checking the hashtag all the time. I'm the boss of this hashtag and I can't wait to see people taking selfies of what they've bought from the collection," he revealed recently. Get clicking and tagging with #H&MBalmaination.

And he's planning on being at a Paris location when the collab hits.
Rousteing remembers lining up for Karl Lagerfeld's collection with the mass retailer, and now he's the main draw, planning to be at a Paris H&M on the big day. "It's iimportant for me to be close to my fans," he explained.

The countdown is on for one of the year's most-anticipated fashion collaborations. Balmain for H&M hits stores on November 5 and we've got the entire look book right here. The fashion and celeb-fave brand's designer Olivier Rousteing brought the band's luxe-military touches to the table. We're talking embroidered blazers, bedecked cocktails dresses and lots and lots of embroidered, beaded, and epaulet-drenched must-haves.

“I want to talk to my generation: this is my main purpose as a designer," Rousting said in a statement. "H&M allows me the unique possibility of bringing everyone into the world of Balmain, getting a piece of the dream and creating a global #HMBalmaination: a movement of togetherness, fueled on a hashtag. The collaboration felt extremely natural to me because everybody can connect with the H&M brand. It calls for unity, and I am all for it."

Kendall Jenner Had the Most-Liked Instagram Picture From All of Paris Fashion Week

admin
268

All the numbers have been counted from Paris Fashion Week, and the social media powers that be can confirm: Kendall Jenner had the most-liked Instagram picture of all. Her black-and-white snap of a snap shows the actress in a classic photo both strip, posing with a sexy pout and a pair of bunny ears. The post has 1.2 million likes, besting second-place finisher Cara Delevingne by a rough 100,000. Cara's on-the-go image is of her exiting the Chanel show (1.1 million hearts), but can't actually claim official runner-up status: Kendall had another pic that reached the same approximate amount of likes.

The numbers are clearly huge, but neither come close to Kendall's epic shot of her hair arranged into romantic heart-forming tendrils. Paris Fashion week began today and we're starting it off with a very. big.show. Balmain, is showing it's spring 2016 runway show tomorrow, October 1 at 9am EST—and guess what? You can watch it live right here. Check out our link to the livestream at the bottom of this post, but until then let us whet your appetite with a sneak peek of the collection by none other than Kendall Jenner and her top model best bud, Gigi Hadid. Proof that the collection will be something to see? There are see-though pants are involved. Jenner and Hadid, who both star in the brand's fall campaign with their sisters as well as the house's new H&M collab ads, got first dibs on looks from the collection, which they debuted at a dinner with Instagram and Vogue earlier this evening in Paris.

How do they say YOLO in French? More on that later.). Hadid wears a signature mini-dress in army green from the brand with lace up details.
