When Rihanna, Beyonce, and Kanye West are zeroing in on a particular fashion trend, you know it's pretty major.

We're talking about athleisure, the gym-to-day (and sometimes night!) lines that are taking over retail. Seriously, everyone loves a comfortable pair of leggings, but add a chic sweater to throw over them that wicks away sweat and keeps you looking presentable at brunch? Talk about a win-win. But if you're still feeling trepidation about, say, wearing heels with your sweatpants, allow Tory Burch to warm you up to the look with her new Tory Sport line. Leave it to Burch to create whisper-thin leggings and totally opaque styles with with four-way stretch; colorful rash guards that we plan to wear on the beach and then on a date with jeans and heels; and airy cashmere sweaters with cooling qualities. So good.

We had the chance to chat with Tory, who picked her favorites from the collection:

Tory Burch Has Created An Athleisure Line for Women Who Like To Dress Up
Chevron Leggings, $125
“Our Chevron leggings are engineered with a fine yarn knitted in an interlock structure to create a dense fabric that is super opaque, quick drying and extremely lightweight. The zipper pocket at the waist fits an iPhone or iPod so you can easily listen to music while working out.”

Tory Burch Has Created An Athleisure Line for Women Who Like To Dress Up
Sleeveless Tunic Dress, $225
“Our tunic dress balances real function with incredible style. It has a soft, brushed feel on the inside but the piqué structure gives it breathability and a cool, vintage vibe.”

Tory Burch Has Created An Athleisure Line for Women Who Like To Dress Up
Performance Cashmere Crewneck Sweater, $285
“We updated the vintage ski sweater with a beautiful blend of cashmere and Coolmax, a performance fiber with a unique, cooling feel. It is incredibly soft, lightweight and breathable.”

Tory Burch Has Created An Athleisure Line for Women Who Like To Dress Up
Block-Striped Rashguard, $195
“Our Block-Striped Rashguard is designed with Sensitive fabric, which is quick-drying with SPF 50 sun protection—perfect for a day at the beach swimming and paddleboarding with my boys. The material takes color really well—the hues are so vibrant.”

Tory Burch Has Created An Athleisure Line for Women Who Like To Dress Up
Color-Block Track Suit. Jacket, $165; pants, $135
“Our track suit is nostalgic and modern, sporty, and chic. The fabric is cotton on the inside, which is super soft against the skin, and the outside has subtle shine. It references the seventies but feels fresh at the same time.”

Tory Burch Has Created An Athleisure Line for Women Who Like To Dress Up
White Tennis Tote, $395
“I play tennis every week and am always looking for a stylish bag that can fit all my gear. Our tote is spacious with separate compartments for your racquet and shoes—and it looks great.”

Julianne Hough Designed Workout Clothes You Can Wear to Dinner
Julianne Hough wearing an outfit of her own design in Los Angeles on Monday.

If we've learned anything about the still-going-strong athleisure trend, it's that life's way to short to be wearing uncomfortable pants. The latest to join the chic and comfy clothes battalion is dancer, singer, actress, and all-around awesome human, Julianne Hough, who walked us through her very first fashion collection in Los Angeles on Monday.

Like any first-time designer, Hough was beyond excited as she showed her colorful collection of gym-to-street-to-dinner apparel line with MPG. She pointed out the color combinations, offered styling tips and pointed out the dressy details, such as mesh insets and cutouts. She even designed pieces that you can wear to dinner, but there are definitely some rules on how to pull it off. Check out our interview with the style star here:

Glamour: Why decide to get into the athleisure-wear business?
Julianne Hough: I’ve been wearing athletic clothes my whole life, and I always felt like they’ve never been OK to go outside and run errands in, and go to meetings and whatever. So I was like, “How do I create something that I can mix and match with your streetwear?” I’m really excited about it. It’s quality material because I wanted to make sure it was quality at an affordable price range [from $40 to $60].

Glamour: How much of a say did you have in terms of the prints on each design, and the color as well?
J.H.: I used to be a matchy-matchy person, and now I like to mix and match. There’s actually a bra top that goes with these leggings, but I thought, “Oh, I’m going to mix it up with this pattern instead.” MPG already had some amazing prints and colors and patterns, so when I came in for the spring collection, I just curated what they already had. For the fall collection that’s coming out later, we started from the beginning and created all new patterns and designs. This next one in the fall will be a lot more dance inspired.

Glamour: We love leggings at Glamour and we can tell that you do, too! Do you have any rules for styling them outside of the gym?
J.H.: By the way, this is why I created this line—I do it all the time, but I feel like everybody is wearing the same black leggings, and it kind of never really was accepted, and it kind of felt like you’re just going out in your workout gear, but if you [wear] my line, then I think it’s very acceptable! [Laughs] It’s fashionable, it’s cute, it’s fun. These are real pieces that you can layer with jeans and stuff like that. For me, I’m like, I’m all for it!

Glamour: Are there any major Don'ts when it comes to your favorite pants?
J.H.: I wouldn’t wear them to a fancy dinner or a ball. [Laughs] I wouldn’t go to the Met Gala! Can you imagine? [Laughs]. I think if you have long leggings that go to your ankle, then that’s acceptable [to wear to dinner]— especially if you have a nice cute top and [pair it] with boots or heels.

Here and above, styles from Julianne Hough for MPG.

Glamour: What about hair and makeup when you’re in athleisure? Should you make more of an effort since you’re dressing more casual, or does it not matter?
J.H.: I think a lot of people think workout [wear] is schlubby or like, “Oh, I’m disgusting, I gotta go change my clothes,” and I’m like, “No, you can make it really cute and wear it all day and not feel like a schlub.” [Laughs]

Glamour: What’s your recommendation for taking care of athleisure wear?
J.H.: It’s kind of the same as any workout gear, you don’t want to dry it on super hot. Air-dry is great. The quality of the fabric is amazing, and for the price you’re getting it at, too.

How to Wear Leggings at Work, According to a Woman Who’s Dressed Kate Middleton in Workout Clothes

On the behalf of the Duchess of Cambridge, we've got to say thank goodness for athleisure. Without stylish pieces meant to work out, how else could Kate Middleton ever attend sporting events where she's required to get active without losing a modicum of royal dignity? For a tennis event in Scotland this winter the brand she relied on was Monreal, a London-based company created by tennis player Stefanï Grosse.

"She's such a style icon that it was extremely flattering to see her sporting our tuxedo track pants. We were caught by surprise and didn't know she was going to wear them," Grosse told us, having found out later that Kate bought the pair herself from a London shop. Pay attention to the shape too: they're looser than leggings (could a new trend be bubbling up?) "I wouldn't be surprised if her choice of leg shape has an impact on the next athleisure silhouette. The slim-fit track pant is perfectly suitable for any type of workout and less revealing than classic leggings, making it a more polished and sophisticated look for wearing outside the gym."

While we're eager to see how the Duchess-approved pants affect what others reach for, classic leggings are unlikely to flag in popularity any time soon. According to Grosse, the key to making yours work outside the gym is to carefully consider both shoe and color.

"Chic sandals will make stylish leggings perfect for any occasion—they can even be worn well with heels," she said before suggesting you leave printed tights to the workout arena. "Darker, muted colors are generally the easiest to wear in non-sports related environments." To really rock the leggings IRL game, it might be worth it to consider shopping separate pairs for your cardio and your off-time. Grosse mentions a pair of biker leggings with zipper details that "can be worn just like skinny jeans. Combined with a beautiful long cashmere sweater or cardigan and smart sandals or boots, leggings are definitely office worthy."

Monreal's biker leggings

As much as we love 'em, there's more to athleisure than just leggings. If you've already figured out how to wear yours 24/7, consider adding in a new shape and follow Victoria Beckham's lead.

"She was one of the very first customers to purchase our signature tennis dress at Harrods. It's the perfect athleisure style, and I don't believe she's a tennis player," she commented. "A lot of women wear it as a white summer dress. Some of our tennis skirts have been spotted around town combined with designer tops or knitwear."

Investing in pricey workout togs can feel a little bit jarring, but finding a great fit and superior fabrication (and an overall product that won't disintegrate after too many dances with the dryer) can be worth it. Take heart too that the athleisure trend isn't going anywhere. Grosse started Monreal in May 2012 to fill a void she'd noticed and has seen that there's major staying power.

"I simply wasn't able to find high-performance workout gear that would also be stylish enough to zip around in when the match was over," she explained regarding her push to start designing. "Athleisure has taken off rapidly since, and this trend is here for the long run. Activewear is no longer just about practicality and need—it's about desire."

Now, watch 11 things you didn't know about Kate Middleton.

Ok, so New Years came and went and you didn't exactly follow through on that resolution to hit the gym. That's ok—we're not judging. Besides, spring is here and it's time to try again! Whether you're a yoga studio kind of woman or ready to hit the pavement for a run outside now that the temperature is rising, we're here to offer a little extra inspiration by way of some of the cutest activewear out there. It's important to feel like the best version of you in what you're wearing, and the pieces you put on for the gym are no exception. You don't have to get super fancy—after all, we're hoping to break a sweat here—but don't be afraid to grab that neon pink sports bra or leggings with a statement-making pattern. Besides, clothing is an awesome motivator: That new skirt we couldn't wait to wear makes a long day at the office a little more bearable; that killer pair of heels makes us feel more confident on that first date; and—yes—that statement-making sports bra and leggings actually has the power to kick our asses out of bed in the morning to make it to the gym on time. The marriage of style and function when it comes to activewear has been increasingly easier to find these days (finally.) And with the styles below, you no longer have to worry about a sports bra that looks pretty, but doesn't make you feel any more supported than you would if you went naked, or brightly colored leggings that become so sheer when you stretch them that you may as well be naked. From floral sneakers to striped leggings; cropped tees and colorful bralettes, these pieces will make it exciting to update that activewear collection.

The New Leggings Kylie Jenner, Khloe Kardashian, and Gigi Hadid Are About to Be Obsessed With

If you're been paying close attention to the style choices of Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Kim and Khloe Kardashian, and Gigi Hadid, you might have noticed a still under-the-radar name popping up again and again: House of CB. The British brand has been behind a lot of the girls' sexy, body-con pieces, and we're predicting that you're about to see it blow up on your Instagram feed even more thanks to a new, tightly edited collection of workout-ready leggings and tops.

The brand's DNA is all about curve-hugging dresses and Kardashian-favored separates like crop tops and bodysuits, and you can expect more of the same when it comes to the fitness offerings. To wit, they're the ones behind Gigi's majorly steamy cutout bodysuit, worn with one of last year's biggest styling surprises (a top she turned into a skirt). At Justin Bieber's AMA after-party the brand was spotted on both Gigi and Kylie.

It should come as no surprise that the sister who's been the most visible fan of the workout togs so far has been gym devotee Khloe Kardashian, spotted out recently in a pink and purple pair of the brand's leggings. And while we love the colorful kick it adds to her exercise regime (imagine how good they must look hanging in her fitness closet), we're also crazy about the price tag. Compared with the $100+ leggings that have flooded the athleisure market, these feel downright affordable at $56. Longline crop tops are $42.

We know Kendall Jenner's a fan of simple black leggings (and which exact pair), so we can't wait to see if she pulls on one of these brighter styles.

Taylor Swift’s Chic Athleisure Style Is Giving Us Fitness Motivation for 2016

Taylor Swift is giving us some serious fitness motivation, but not in the way you might expect.

Taylor Swift's Chic Athleisure Style Is Giving Us Fitness Motivation for 2016

The singer has been spotted out in Los Angeles wearing a slew of covetable athleisure looks that showcase how to perfectly rock the must-wear trend for the start of the new year. Swift has found a way to perfectly mesh slouched beanies, cool kicks and stylish leather bags for an effect that is put-together while wholly ready for a hike or the treadmill. (With gym outfit inspo like this, we're happy to give in and hit the gym.)

She's also found an admirer in Kim Kardashian, who posted a photo of Swift to her Instagram account because Tay has been rocking—you guessed it—Kanye West's Yeezy Boost 350 sneakers.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley Is Launching Workout Clothes Through Autograph at M&S

Make room in your workout drawer—Rosie Huntington-Whiteley would like a space, please and thank you. The British bombshell has expanded her lingerie collection with UK brand Autograph to include a full range of fitness apparel—Rosie for Autograph Active—hitting Marks & Spencer shelves this January.

"Fitness and wellbeing is such a huge part of my life, it feels like a really natural step for my existing lingerie range to develop and now include activewear pieces," Huntington-Whiteley told The Daily Mail (you can buy Rosie-approved PJs alongside bras and undies). The collection is dance-inspired with an obvious nod to ballerina style; wraps, leotards, and soft fabrics make up a good chunk of it, all done in a soft palette or gray and blush.

The unstoppable rise of athleisure has meant we're collectively interested in shopping for cute workout togs that you want to wear beyond the gym, and it's easy enough to turn to the former Victoria's Secret Angel for it. Like most of the girls who strut the runway, she seems to be a devoted fitness fan and is always snapped looking chic post workout. Have you stopped drooling over that gorgeous deep green Saint Laurent bag she's toting as her gym bag?

And while we're totally down with the idea of feeling a bit more like a bombshell while getting our sweat on, don't think that's all Huntington-Whiteley cares about. Her answer when we asked about making boyfriend jeans more guy-friendly was perhaps the most genius interview answer we got all of 2015.

Models are doing it all this day, including raking in the cash for Instagram posts. Come see what top posers like Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid are earning, but beware: Your mouth might actually drop open.

The Dos and Don’ts of Pulling Off the Athleisure Fashion Trend

admin
293

OK, guys, deep breath. The athleisure trend isn't going anywhere—if anything, it's picking up steam for the year ahead.

Some might rejoice at this news: What? I get to wear my comfy gym clothes to brunch and even to drinks? Yahoo! There are others, however, that will shudder at the thought: Seriously, Glamour? You want me to wear my gym leggings on a date? Just, no.

But like all good things, this trend is best pulled off at a happy medium. The sportswear-meets-street wear blend is tricky, so when it comes to athleisure, it's all about balance. For instance, you can mix slouchy cashmere pants with a cropped jacket; add a sporty jacket to a work look; or slip into a pair of sneakers when headed out on a date. To get specific, let's turn to athleisure pros, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, and athleisure OG, Gwen Stefani to see the Dos and Don'ts of pulling it off.

The Dos and Don'ts of Pulling Off the Athleisure Fashion Trend
Do: Like Kendall Jenner, add a pair of crisp white ultra sporty kicks with a black mini dress and chic, tailored coat.
Don't: Wear ratty or beat up sneakers. It will tone down your overall polish.

The Dos and Don'ts of Pulling Off the Athleisure Fashion Trend
Do: Break up the traditional tracksuit, like Gwen Stefani, who paired her Adidas zip-up with skinny jeans and a plaid flannel shirt.
Don't: Go head-to-toe tracksuit. Because frankly, it's not 2001.

The Dos and Don'ts of Pulling Off the Athleisure Fashion Trend
Do: Dress up your cashmere sweatpants with a leather biker jacket and bright blue felt hat, like Cara Delevingne. It's a great look for traveling and casual days.
Don't: Wear this to an event or something special. It's a casual piece that can get you to brunch and back (and sure, some shopping in-between).

The Dos and Don'ts of Pulling Off the Athleisure Fashion Trend
Do: Dress it up, à la Hailey Baldwin, who added a dose of athleisure to her look by pairing a silk blouse, mini skirt, and heeled booties with a baseball jacket. This outfit works for a casual office environment or even a date night!
Don't: Wear anything too oversized. Baggy fitting pieces will end up looking messy.

The Dos and Don'ts of Pulling Off the Athleisure Fashion Trend
Do: Throw on a pair of booties with your track pants! We love how Gigi Hadid mixes track pants with a tailored coat and heeled ankle booties for a casual and sporty wintertime look.
Don't: Wear high-heels, pumps, or dressy sandals. This is about being chic and comfy, it's not about trying too hard.

Avoid a Winter Workout Rut With This Awesome, Art-Inspired Gear

There's nothing worse than working out in an outfit you hate — unflattering leggings, dingy sport bra, stretched-out top. Catching sight of your blah reflection in the mirror as you lunge your way through bootcamp is enough to make you want to throw in the towel on the working out forever.

Luckily, that's not as much of an issue as it used to be: Cool athletic brands are popping up faster than you can say "jump squat", and the (well-documented) athleisure trend shows no signs of stopping. But while there are plenty of attractive activewear items on the market, there haven't been many that incorporate art — until now.

Just in time for Miami's upcoming Art Basel, cool-kid fitness retailer Bandier has released a series of capsule collections with well-known artists and activewear brands. All of the pieces not only feature eye-catching original prints, they were also created to be flattering on the body. Think: high waisted leggings, sheer layers, and architecturally-cut crop tops. These pieces look good at the gym, and they look awesome outside of it, too. Just the thing to help avoid a winter workout wardrobe rut, don't you think?

Scroll down for more details on Bandier's Art-Meets-Activewear collection, available online December 3rd.
