Demi Lovato, Taylor, Swift, and Selena Gomez Nail Spring’s Biggest Trend at iHeart Radio Awards

Conjure the words "red carpet," and your first (albeit stylish) thought would be of drop-dead gorgeous dresses. Not tonight.

Music's biggest stars bucked the traditional red carpet attire for one of spring's most major fashion trends: dressy pants. The likes of Demi Lovato, Taylor Swift, Zendaya, and Selena Gomez ditched flirty dresses for powerful, bold trousers at the iHeart Radio music Awards. And yes, each of them wore the trend like the bosses they are. Lovato went for an updated version of the '80s power suit in a black-and-white jumpsuit with built-up shoulders. Swift channeled Cat Woman in a skin-tight turtleneck jumpsuit coated in jet black bugle beads. Gomez went all out in a tangerine look with slash cutouts at the midriff. And then there was Zendaya, who slayed in a red crushed-velvet pantsuit over a black bralette—like we said, slayed. See how each of the stars pulled off the looks in their own way right here:

See What Taylor Swift, Chrissy Teigen, and Others Wore to Lady Gaga’s Birthday Party

To celebrate her 30th birthday, Lady Gaga invited some of her closest friends to a dinner in Los Angeles last night, and there was nary a meat dress in sight. While that's no real surprise (a raw meat dress is surely a once-in-a-lifetime thing), we were intrigued to see that this was most definitely not a costume affair. Instead, pals like Taylor Swift and Kate Hudson wore neutral hues in shapes that would easily fit into your own wardrobe and are ripe for outfit inspiration. The same can't be said for the woman of the hour though, who wowed in a Saint Laurent fall 2016 frock. With a wide waist belt and puffed sleeves, it drew heavily on the mega-glamour of the '80s to create a big impact.

Taylor's sparkly black jumpsuit was a timeless silhouette enlivened by the bold glitter. It's also a perfect example of how Lauren Conrad suggested wearing metallic this spring: When you're going head-to-toe, stick with one shade.

We love Kate Hudson's sexy black situation for a spring date night. The low-cut style featured a trio of pins keeping things together and a gauzy wrap skirt that exposed a lot of leg. For extra warmth, she added a long trench-style coat.

Chrissy Teigen's sexy maternity style was on full display with her black pantsuit. The skintight look was steamy, period, but the lacy top added an extra saucy touch.

A silky blue suit with a trail of flowers extending from the hip and down the leg looked '70s-chic on Suki Waterhouse. She kept things modern-model too by layering a crop top underneath.

That most classic of spring prints—pretty, feminine florals—had a showing on Lana Del Rey, who picked a retro silhouette with flutter sleeves. She accessorized it exactly as we'd want to for a spring weekend, wearing comfy flats and a small bag that would leave you unencumbered.

Ready for spring? These are the trends you're about to see everyone wearing (according to Pinterest).

Let's all thank Taylor Swift for unofficially kicking off bathing suit shopping season. The pop star appears to be in the middle of a tropical vacation with beau Calvin Harris, and, along with causing a serious case of wanderlust, she's been offering up swim style inspiration left and right. A typically feminine dresser, Taylor's beachwear of choice has often been of the high-waisted, retro-inspired variety (so much so that Saturday Night Live made light of it in a sketch). She's switching it up this time though, picking string bikinis that look more like something you'd spot in the Victoria's Secret swim special. As anyone can attest to, style changes throughout your life, so maybe it's a new leaf for Taylor. The other possibility? Her beach style is morphing due to her relationship, a phenomenon we noticed right when these two started canoodling. Either way, we're digging it.

The black lace suit seen from behind in Calvin's Insta is from Love & Lemons and will cost you (both pieces together retail just shy of $300). Intriguingly, if you really peer in close you'll also notice what looks like a body chain laying over the back of her bikini bottoms. It's a look Rihanna sports frequently, but not something we expected from Tay.

We haven't quite figured out who makes this neon color blocked bikini yet, but will update when we do. The bright colors are fun, and the cut of the top is one we obsessed over last spring and summer. If you haven't tried a French bikini yet, let Taylor inspire you this swim season.

Fashion favorite Solid & Striped was also packed in the singer's vacation suitcase (though, frustratingly, not included in the Instagram love fest). It's a classic two-piece in the label's signature stripes, and Taylor's powder pink-and-white version is still available a few pieces on the web. Grab it on sale here or shop similar versions online.

True Story: When Taylor Swift Was Bullied in School, Her Mom Took Her Shopping to Feel Better

Just ask Taylor Swift and her mom, Andrea: Retail therapy is real. The pop star just shared some personal facts with US Weekly, including a story about how she used to handle mean girls.

"When I was bullied in school my mom used to take me to T.J.Maxx after school to look at the opal jewelry," she said, revealing opals are this girl's best friend. "I thought opals were so beautiful, and somehow it made me feel better. We never bought them, just looked." Sweet huh? (And Calvin, remember this for next year's anniversary gift.)

Other fashion facts we learned? Her favorite fall shades to wear are maroon, mustard, dark green, and navy blue, and her polished ladylike style wasn't always her go-to look. "I used to wear a Victoria's Secret Pink hoodie and sweatpants to school on a regular basis," she admitted, making us think about all the stuff we wore in college that we just can't deal with anymore. See? Cinderella shoes aside, Taylor's just a regular girl who loves comfy pants and shopping with her mom.

Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian, and a European Queen in Real-Life Cinderella Shoes

We're consistently fascinated by women stepping out in real-life Cinderella shoes (i.e., those utilizing plastic and Lucite for a clear, glass-like appearance). Spain's Queen Letizia was the first to show just how chic it can be, wearing her favorite pair multiple times to official engagements where looking regal is expected. Now we've spotted the look on reality royalty as well, with Kim Kardashian West pairing totally clear sandals with a nude bodysuit she wore earlier this month. Prior to that, the unique accessories made an appearance in Taylor Swift's closet as well, and, frankly, with Dolce & Gabbana's fall 2016 collection going all-in on the princess thing, we're just counting the days until we see a street-style star style step out in the brand's take on the iconic slipper. For now, take a peek at how the shoes have been worn so far.

Here is Kim's full outfit:

Pop star princess Taylor wore her Cinderella-inspired heels for a party celebrating "Red" back in 2012. The Christian Louboutin slingbacks had a sparkly black cap toe, but the rest of the shoe had the glass slipper thing going on.

While both Kim and Taylor do the look well, we might have to hand the official crown to Queen Letizia, whose elegant Magrit pair actually feel like the real thing. Compared to Taylor's, where the material is a design detail, and Kim's, with a funky shape that feels straight from the runway, Letizia's classic silhouette is clean and could honestly be subbed in for a modern-day retelling of the fairy tale.

Heart-Shaped Lockets to Shop as Inspired by Taylor Swift’s Romantic Anniversary Gift

Has everyone recovered from swooning over the romantic way Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris marked their one-year anniversary? It took us a while too. It also left us desperately wanting a vintage heart-shaped locket necklace ASAP.

Lockets, of course, are an age-old way to express love, but did you know that they have a fascinating history? For instance, in ancient times lockets were used as a portable transfer of medicines, or even poison (think of it as the pepper spray of yore). In the Victorian England, lockets were used to show love by holding a picture, baby tooth, or even a lock of hair—but they were also a sign of mourning as a way to remember the deceased. Later on in the 19th and 20th centuries, they were used as a keepsake between lovers, holding a portrait, secret note, or even a cotton ball doused in perfume, for a soldier at war to remember his love by.

Today, lockets are simply an elegant, old fashioned way to show your love that's way more lasting than say, an Instagram shout-out. And they couldn't be more romantic. Check out Swift's post and see our picks to shop now.

Insider Intel on Whether Taylor Swift and Squad Plan Their Outfits Together

Zendaya, Taylor Swift, Lily Aldridge, Martha Hunt, and Hailee Steinfeld

Having a big group of friends takes some impressive organization—think about all those birthdays to remember and a group text message chain that must never stop blinking. One thing Taylor Swift and her squad don't need to stress over? What they're wearing.

As a confirmed posse member, Zendaya was included when the group walked the Billboard Music Awards red carpet together last May (she was Cut-Throat in "Bad Blood" and wore biker shorts and harness thigh-highs that we tallied as outfit #16 from the fashion-filled video). Prior to the Billboard moment, Zendaya, Taylor, Lily Aldridge, and Co. weren't exchanging snaps and info about what they were set to wear. Rather, according to Zendaya's stylist Law Roach, each woman did her own thing and never discussed looks until the big day. "We got to Taylor's dressing room and she wasn't even dressed yet." When she eventually got it on, Taylor's jumpsuit was Balmain; Zendaya was in Fausto Puglisi.

This little tidbit makes all the friendships feel even more authentic, no? Rather than a highly produced red-carpet moment with outfits meant to read as complementary, the world saw a group of accomplished individuals who love spending time together, but don't define themselves through their association. Basically, matching-denim-tuxedo moment it was not (nor leather Gucci—sorry Mr. and Mrs. Beckham!).

Taylor Swift is giving us some serious fitness motivation, but not in the way you might expect.

Taylor Swift's Chic Athleisure Style Is Giving Us Fitness Motivation for 2016

The singer has been spotted out in Los Angeles wearing a slew of covetable athleisure looks that showcase how to perfectly rock the must-wear trend for the start of the new year. Swift has found a way to perfectly mesh slouched beanies, cool kicks and stylish leather bags for an effect that is put-together while wholly ready for a hike or the treadmill. (With gym outfit inspo like this, we're happy to give in and hit the gym.)

Taylor Swift’s Sexy Tartan Mini Just Might Be Her Leggiest Look Ever

One thing's for sure: 26 certainly looks good on Taylor Swift.

Taylor Swift’s Sexy Tartan Mini Just Might Be Her Leggiest Look Ever

The star landed at LAX today—her 26th birthday—after wrapping up her 1989 World Tour in Melbourne, Australia last night looking, oh, about every inch of perfection. Swift appeared fresh after her long flight, stepping out in a cozy navy crewneck sweater and ultra-short tartan mini that could very well be one of the star's most leg-baring looks to date. And while her black tights offer a bit of coverage, the look, overall, is pretty sexy.

Rocking her signature bob (leave it to Tay to have hair that sleek right after departing an airplane), light makeup and a pair of black brogues, the birthday girl was essentially the portrait of I'm-another-year-older cool. Beyond it being her birthday, the singer has much to celebrate: With her tour finished, we're sure she'll be hunkering down with family, friends and boyfriend Calvin Harris to ring in the holidays and New Year.

Why 2015 Will Go Down As Taylor Swift’s Biggest Year in Fashion

It was a huge year for Taylor Swift. She kicked off her 1989 World Tour, racked up more Instagram followers than both Beyonce and Kim Kardashian, and—of course—created the ultimate #squadgoals with countless 1989 stage appearances from all of her besties.

This year was also the year T. Swift officially upped her fashion game, going from cute matches-sets and Mary Janes to sizzlinghot right-off-the-runway looks. We're talking Balmain cutout jumpsuits, sequin sweatpants for It Brit designer, Ashish and hello, a leather harness (not a typo). Could it be the influence of Karlie Kloss, Lily Aldridge, Hailee Steinfeld, Selena Gomez, and the rest of her fashion-first girl squad?Check out the Taylor's most daring. high fashion looks of the year here:

On the red carpet, Swift turned up the heat in cutout jumpsuits, sequin sets, and sheer gowns, to name a few.

Instead of a princess gown for the Grammys in February, Swift opted for an split-front gown from Elie Saab, with a full-skirted train, layered over a mini.

Leaving skirts and dresses behind for a TV appearance, Swift slipped into a black-and-white pants and top combo by Sachin & Babi.

Baring just enough, Swift rocks a sexy sheer-back gown by Roberto Cavalli Atelier in February at the Brit Awards.

Though the mini dress shape is more traditional Swift, we love the edgier vibe of this cutout black sparkle Kaufman Franco style.

The white Balmain jumpsuit she wore to the Billboard Awards in May, is the perfect, youthful yet sexy, alternative to Swift's more feminine red carpet looks of yore.

With a modern hip hop vibe, Swift went edgy in this Ashish sequin set.

Off duty, Swift left her matched sets behind in favor of edgier looks, like head-to-toe black and harnessed belts.

Tay 2015 sought out daring accessories, like this harness belt, styled over a simple T-shirt and cutoff shorts for a shopping date with Selena Gomez.

VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015

Taking a long look back at the year, there were a lot of major style moments on the red carpet. Some were sublimely beautiful, a few monumental for what they stood for, and others packed more wow-factor than we ever thought possible. Here, in no particular order, the gowns and dresses that had us talking this year. After your spin down memory lane, be sure to vote on which you think is the top attention-grabber of the year.

1. Lupita Nyong'o's pearl-covered Calvin Klein gown, worn to this year's Academy Awards
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
Even if the pearly beauty left fashion watchers divided, the dress caused a big media storm when it went missing. Valued at $150,000, it got police attention...and was later found in a bathroom at the hotel where the actress was staying.

2. Amal Clooney's tiered Maison Margiela dress, worn to this year's Met Gala
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
The new Mrs. Clooney made a stylish stir whenever she stepped out this year, but it was her red carpet style we were most excited to finally see. At the Met Gala, the fashion world's biggest red carpet, she picked a strapless Maison Margiela couture dress by John Galliano with tiered ruffles that extended from her waist to the floor.

3. Rihanna's yellow Guo Pei gown, worn to this year's Met Gala
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
We knew Rihanna would wear something major the event, and the cascading, canary yellow gown she wore did not disappoint. It was by Chinese couturier Guo Pei; after the fact we learned that the designer didn't really think RiRi should wear this one, calling it "too heavy and too hot."

4. Kim Kardashian West's sheer Roberto Cavalli by Peter Dundas gown, worn to this year's Met Gala
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
The other Met Gala dress the internet couldn't stop buzzing over belonged to Kardashian West, who hopped on the sheer, feather-trimmed bandwagon with this ethereal dress. It was super glam, and, per KKW's Instagram, inspired by a dress worn by Cher to the first ever Met.

5. Lily James' sparkly Elie Saab gown, worn to the Los Angeles premiere of Cinderella
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
Has there ever been a premiere dress more fitting than this? James' tour for the live-action flick was supremely stylish, but it was this Cinderella-like gown that made all of our jaws drop. She kept the theme going all the way down to her toes too, shod by he of the modern-day glass slipper, Christian Louboutin.

6. Caitlyn Jenner's white Atelier Versace gown, worn to this year's ESPY Awards
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
There was a near fever pitch to see what Jenner would wear to her first red carpet, and this striking Versace gown didn't disappoint. The dress had similarities to one Angelina Jolie wore for a film premiere years prior, a not-so-surprising fact when Jenner revealed she sought out Jolie's stylist because she admired the actress' red-carpet vibe. The dress was custom-made for Jenner.

7. Kate Middleton's flowing Jenny Packham dress, worn to the London premiere of Spectre
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
Unlike most of our favorite Hollywood types, Kate Middleton rarely makes proper red-carpet appearances. Tons of official obligations that offer up workwear inspiration, yes, but not always super-glam evening events. When she and Prince William attended the U.K. premiere of the latest James Bond flick, the world sighed over this fluid Jenny Packham gown.

8. Naomi Watts' feathered Elie Saab gown, worn to this year's Cannes Film Festival
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
The red carpet at Cannes is reliably stunning, but it was this voluminous, steel gray feather-skirted dress that topped our best-dressed list.

9. Dakota Johnson's silver Chanel dress, worn to this year's Golden Globes
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
Thanks to a little something called 50 Shades of Grey, this was Johnson's big red-carpet debut year. She skipped voluminous ballgowns, showing a penchant for simple shapes and solids instead; her sparkliest moment came at the Globes thanks to high-wattage silver.

10. Taylor Swift's high-low Elie Saab gown, worn to this year's Grammy Awards
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
Swift showed off her stems in this party-in-the-front pick. From the side and back the teal gown looked like something fit for a princess, but a frontal shot reveals a cheeky miniskirt moment that no royal would dare. Yup—it takes an American princess to pull this one off.

11. Allison Williams' high-volume Giambattista Valli gown, worn to this year's Met Gala
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
The year's red carpets had lots of striking, romantic moments for Miss Williams—practice for her big wedding day moment, perhaps?

12. Jennifer Lopez's beige Elie Saab gown, worn to this year's Academy Awards
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
We've spent serious time tracking just how much J-Lo loves a sheer dress moment, but she went a bit different for this year's Academy Awards (though still just as sexy, natch). Aside from a seductively low neckline, this gown kept things covered up with a full skirt that kept her dancer's legs hidden.

13. Vanessa Hudgens' floral-print Naeem Khan gown, worn to this year's Tony Awards
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
After making her Broadway debut in Gigi, Hudgens was ready to play the part of budding starlet again, making this feminine number so on-point.

14. Nicki Minaj's black Tom Ford dress, worn to this year's Grammy Awards
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
While the rapper's given us some boundary-pushing looks over the year, it's these pared-back looks that really shine. Her Grammys choice was supremely sexy, but elegant too, with a fringed skirt made of light-catching sequins.

15. Charlize Theron's bright yellow Dior gown, worn to this year's Cannes Film Festival
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
As the star of this year's Mad Max reboot, it only made sense for Theron to seriously stand out. She did so in a strapless, sunshine-yellow gown with a train that extended feet behind her.

16. Diane Kruger's caped Prada dress, worn to this year's Venice Film Festival
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
Forever polished, it's no surprise to see Kruger with a handful of red carpet wins. This year was no exception, though it's this retro-inspired stunner that made us gasp the most. It's a study in contrasts of sorts, with a color that's hard to pin down between pale pink, icy silver, and pure white. And while the shape and caped back look plucked from a vintage collection, the exposed skin at her side feels decidedly of this century.

17. Jennifer Lawrence's sheer Schiaparelli gown, worn to the New York premiere of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
It's the last time we'll see Lawrence promote The Hunger Games, and she went out with a bang, wearing gorgeous dress after gorgeous dress. It was one of her latest that really grabbed us: How pretty-sexy is this long-sleeve, sheer Schiaparelli dress?

18. Rihanna's voluminous Giambattista Valli gown, worn to this year's Grammy Awards
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
Because how could you not nominate Rihanna twice with this fabulously frothy creation? The popstar said it piqued her attention from the moment she first spotted it on the internet—amazing.

19. Keira Knightly in romantic Valentino, worn to this year's Academy Awards
VOTE: The Most Memorable Red Carpet Dresses of 2015
The new mom approached maternity style with lots a dreamy touch, skipping skin-tight dresses in favor of pieces that positively floated. Her stand-out moment came at the Oscars, where she positively glowed in embroidered Valentino.

EXCLUSIVE: The Amazing Secret Behind Taylor Swift’s Wildest Dreams Gown

Like all of her music videos from the past year, Taylor Swift's just-debuted "Wildest Dreams" is chockablock with gorgeous fashion. One piece that particularly caught our eye? The strapless pink gown she wears to the premiere of her faux film, redolent of glamorous retro screen stars. The dress is from Christian Siriano, was custom-crafted just for Swift after her stylist saw an Instagram peek of it and will come down the runway at Siriano's spring '16 show this NYFW, all before being returned to Miss Swift.

Wait—what?

EXCLUSIVE: The Amazing Secret Behind Taylor Swift’s Wildest Dreams Gown

"I got an email asking if we'd even loan it because it's something new. I wasn't sure if it was really done—we'd finished it, but hadn't tried it on anyone yet. It had just been finished being sewn in our studio," Siriano told us in amazement. The spring '16 piece was overnighted the next day.

Keep in mind all of this, more or less, just happened. Siriano said the initial call came in about three weeks ago, meaning the video (released during Sunday's VMAs) had an epically quick transition from raw footage to finished mini-movie.

EXCLUSIVE: The Amazing Secret Behind Taylor Swift’s Wildest Dreams Gown

The quick timing also meant there would be absolutely no way for Siriano's team to make another dress for the runway, so, yup, the one that walks the runway during his Sept. 12 show will be the exact one Taylor wore. "We have to find a girl that fits it pretty much like Taylor fits it," Siriano said, revealing that the video's stylist altered the interior corsetry and lining of the dress so it fit the singer like a glove. The piece itself was returned in pristine condition too and basically runway-ready.

"That's what's great about Taylor and her team. You can't get more chic than them, everything comes back clean, perfect and looks like no one's worn it. I've had other clothes come back balled up in a shoe box...I've literally had gowns come back in a shoe box."

A photo posted by Christian Siriano (@csiriano) on Jul 8, 2015 at 1:04pm PDT

The Instagram snap Swift's stylist Joseph Cassell said "was perfect, exactly what Taylor wanted to wear."

"Taylor likes to keep her pieces, so we'll send the original to her after our market. Hopefully she'll have it by mid-October." As you'd expect, Swift isn't likely to re-wear the gown anytime soon; instead, it's likely for an archive. "Taylor actually buys [stuff]. She doesn't ask for them for free, she purchases them. If I was Taylor, I'd want an amazing archive too so when I'm 50 years old I can be like, 'Look at all of the fabulous things I wore.' I'd give it to her, but they offer and that's what's so great about her. She makes money, so she can buy clothes."

The relationship between designer and pop star started when he dressed her for her Wonderstruck fragrance campaign. The dress, a frothy dream of a thing from his spring '11 collection, is indeed in Swift's archives, but it's not the only one of its kind. The starring spot led to all kinds of interest and orders, with Siriano saying his team could barely keep up with demands. Here's hoping magic strikes twice!

You can't get more chic than them, everything comes back clean, perfect and looks like no one's worn it"

The Instagram snap that first caught Swift's team's attention.

The gown worn in the video (and the one that'll be in Siriano's upcoming show) will actually make its way back to the star too. "Taylor likes to keep her pieces, so we'll send the original to her after our market. Hopefully she'll have it by mid-October."

The relationship between designer and pop star started when he dressed her for her Wonderstruck fragrance campaign. That dress, a frothy dream of a thing from his spring '11 collection, is for sure not one of a kind. The starring spot led to all kinds of interest and orders, with Siriano saying his team could barely keep up with demands. Here's hoping magic strikes twice!
