Gigi Hadid Defended Herself (Again) Against Nasty Social Media Haters

admin

Congrats to Gigi Hadid for standing up and defending herself on social media against snarky comments that she should focus on her runway walk and less on boys. A mean tweet came in telling the new super to "practice how to walk properly instead of having a new boyfriend every two weeks," and she chose not to ignore it, instead firing back a pretty perfect response. "I've dated three guys in three years, hun. My walk can always get better; I hope the unrelated bitterness in your heart can too."

It's a neatly packaged takedown (and we've gotta shout out her superior grammar—nicely used semicolon, G!), but hardly the first time she's stepped up and spoken out.

Gigi Hadid Defended Herself (Again) Against Nasty Social Media Haters

Thus far, her career has been marked by a few instances like the above, and we've applauded her for it each and every time. She's clearly one smart cookie, with reactions that come from a place of supreme self-assuredness and are the opposite of knee-jerk, emotional responses. Take, for instance, her recent British Vogue cover where she said, "I love my body because I know what it's been through to be what it is, and honestly I'm not going to change for someone that is depressed about their life." Her publicist might not understand the beauty's need to engage, but it won't stop her. "I've always been someone that stands up for myself. To the point where my publicist will say, 'Sometimes it's better to not say anything.' And I'm like, 'The limelight means you're supposed to hide? And not stand your ground?,'" she added. "That doesn't make sense to me. What's the point of social media if you're only going to respond to things that make you look great; if you're not willing to stand up for yourself, people take advantage of that."

Gigi Hadid Wore Another Amazing Jacket-Dress for a Night Out

Gigi Hadid has done it again.

Gigi Hadid Wore Another Amazing Jacket-Dress for a Night Out

"It" being "stunned in another jacket-as-a-dress ensemble," of course. The blond beauty stepped out with her fellow supermodel sister Bella Hadid for a night of dinner and dancing at celeb-fave hotspot The Nice Guy in West Hollywood—and both ladies crushed it in the style department.

Gigi, who wowed us in a Versace blazer-turned-minidress at a Paris Fashion Week party last week, donned an acid-wash denim jacket-dress with super-sexy thigh-high boots (the kind that Kendall and Kylie Jenner have been obsessed with lately too). Bella sported a clingy beige sweater dress with a glossy bomber jacket and black sandals for the models' night on the town.

Sure, this might have been a super-chic choice for Saturday night fun with friends, but we're also getting major date-night inspo from both gals' get-ups. After all, if Gigi has anything to say about, jackets are the dresses to wear this spring.

A New Study Reveals Fashion’s Most Influential Famous Families

We all know their faces—there’s no need to even utter their surnames: Kendall, Kylie, Gigi, Bella. But it turns out there’s a lot in a last name, at least in social rank, according to some statistics created for fashionista.com by analytics firm D’Marie. They broke down some not-so-surprising numbers on the overall influence of our favorite famous families (say that ten times fast) and ranked them based on engagement on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

In first place are the sisters Jenner (shocker!), who account for nearly half of the overall social pull among the thousands of ranked individuals. Snagging second are the Beckhams, as in David, Victoria, and Brooklyn, who’ve conquered the worlds of sports, fashion, pop, and modeling in spades, respectively, and take up a little more than a quarter of this familial matrix. Next up, Cara and Poppy Delevingne, followed by the youngest Smiths, the androgynous fashion favorites Jaden and Willow. Shockingly sliding into last place are the Hadids (Gigi and Bella). But as social media rankings change by the day, hour, minute, and second, we think it’s safe to say that this will change very soon.

A quick glance at the overall list reads like a social media dream, revealing the total following of our pop culture idols. Taking the crown is Kendall (again, contain your gasping), who boasts 74,526,272 loyal subjects. But the key to her ranking isn’t having the most followers (second place diva Taylor Swift has 201,940,796 followers and baby sis Kylie comes in third with 75,435,149), but rather in overall engagement across all three social platforms. Meaning: you can climb up the leaderboard on Instagram (we see you, Selena), but if you aren’t also being mindful of your Facebook and Twitter clan, you won’t make the cut.

We’re not enthusiasts, but we can get on board with these kinds of numbers. Let’s see how Gigi and Bella use this intel to get ahead—watch your backs, Cara and Poppy!

All in all, though, you probably don't need a study to tell you how influential these families are when it comes to personal style—including everything from the leggings Kendall loves to the girls' knack for wearing things in unexpected ways.

Gigi Hadid Just Wore a Blazer as a Dress, and It Was Everything

When you're a supermodel, basic fashion rules don't always apply. Case in point? Gigi Hadid stepping out at a Paris Fashion Week party in a Versace blazer worn seductively as a mini dress. You see these styling tricks pulled on the runway or in glossy fashion spreads, but it can be majorly tricky to translate them IRL. Therefore, a big round of applause for Gigi, who pulled it off with aplomb. For accessories, she utilized a thick belt at the waist to define her shape and made her stems look super long via platform sandals (sister Bella called her "a beautiful human skyscraper" in the accompanying Instagram caption).

This isn't the first time the bombshell has impressed us with her moves either. At this year's Victoria's Secret after party she wore a black top as a skirt, pairing it with a steamy cutout bodysuit. The whole subversive ashion thing is likely something she picked up from her Kardashian friends too: The family has worn items totally different than intended multiple times.

The Curvy Girl’s Guide to Pulling Off Gigi Hadid Style

admin

The '90s has never really felt like my decade for fashion, although I've always loved the aesthetic. The skintight crop tops and baby tees were just not a trend that I felt flattered my figure. But seeing pics of Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner in their '90s vibes day in day out on Instagram inspired me to rethink my personal ban on the '90s trends that are so right now. First, I took on Kendall on my blog, The 12ish Style, (which focuses on fashion for size-12-to-18 women living in a size-2 world). Next up, I looked to Gigi to find a look that represented the decade but also made me feel confident.

The Curvy Girl's Guide to Pulling Off Gigi Hadid Style
The inspo: Gigi Hadid in full '90s regalia at the Yeezy show in New York in February

My obsession: The outfit Gigiwore to the Yeezy show last month—it drew me in BIG TIME. Styled by Monica Rose, the slip dress and choker combo is so 90’s it hurts… and yet on Gigi, it's just so good.Seeing as I’m ready to burn all my cold weather clothes and pretend it’s spring, Gigi’s outfit couldn’t have hit these winter weary eyes at a better time. I knew from the moment I saw it I had to recreate it.

If that sounds like a weird undertaking, let me pause to explain. It Girls like Gigi are dressed by the best stylists in the biz, resulting in amazing outfit inspiration for the rest of us. Since the pros typically aren’t styling size 12 or 14 girls, I love the challenge of proving these looks can work on anyone.

The first recreation we did on The12ish Style was Kendall Jenner’s chic and easy travel outfit (also the work of Monica Rose), which I loved as a way of showing that travel doesn’t have to look as ugly as it often does. Like Kendall, Gigi is a huge fashion fixture, wearing only the most relevant outfits and possessing the ability to look classic in camel one day and crazy crop-top-cool the next. Of course none of us have Kendall’s or Gigi’s bank accounts or their bods, but I guess that’s my point—you don’t really need to in order to cop their style.

So when I set out to steal Gigi's '90s-tastic look for a night out, I was open to seeing how it would go. Not only was is super easy to pull off and a total success, but two things really surprised me (in a good way).

First, I already knew that for a curvy body, a slip dress isn’t an obvious choice. In fact, it’s a trend I would have skipped over if left to my own devices, but in this below-the-knee Natori version (equipped with plenty of stretch) I actually felt totally at ease and sexy. If you have a chest, don’t overthink the spaghetti straps—just throw on a black bra (skip the strapless, it’s not worth it) and remember you’re wearing a layer on top anyway.

The other huge shock was the choker. It took A LOT for me to will myself to put it on, and I was convinced my neck would be too big, but I actually loved it. Something about it was totally transformative and made me feel hot as hell. And yes, nobody is more surprised by this than me! It’s not worth splurging on, but for $7 at Forever 21 you really can’t go wrong.

To top it off, the perfect silky oversize bomber is obviously key. If Gigi’s $1700 version is just a little out of reach, try this nearly identical Polo version, a steal at under $150. With bombers so in this season (have you heard?), you bet you’ll wear it again and again. Add statement sunnies (to dodge the paparazzi), a small structured bag and minimal jewelry (like this Sarah Chloe lariat) and voila!—turns out it couldn't be easier to steal Gigi’s night-on-the-town style. Plus now you have a cool new go-to outfit to wear to death until summer hits!

Today's Girl-Power Moment Is Brought to You By Gigi Hadid, Lily Aldridge, and Diane von Furstenberg

Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss

To reveal her fall 2016 presentation, Diane von Furstenberg skipped the traditional runway show and basically invited press, bloggers, and style stars to a big fashion week party hosted by—you guessed it—DVF and her contingent of bubbly supermodel friends. The brand is sharing a special feel-good video with us, featuring Gigi Hadid, Lily Aldridge, Jourdan Dunn, Kendall Jenner and more, all dancing, hanging, and sharing the stellar advice the designer has given them.

"Diane always has a beautiful message for all the models. It's be the woman you want to be. If you want to be super sexy, if you want to be super happy, if you want to be super fierce...whatever that woman is that empowers you," Lily explains. It's also important to the designer that every girl she works with is true to herself. "She doesn't want you to be anything that you're not," Gigi added.

Gigi, Alana, and Bella Hadid at the Alana Hadid x Lou & Grey launch event in New York City on Tuesday night.

Every time we see Gigi and Bella Hadid on the runway, looking fab on the street or posting genius Snapchat stories, all we can think is more, more, more.

The model sisters and social media mavens are everything we look for in our favorite models. Sure they're gorgeous, but they also have crazy-good off-duty style, are pretty hilarious on social media and yes, they're just as nice in real life as they are on Instagram. But did you know that they have another stylish sister? Well, get ready to love the fashion goddess that is Alana Hadid. Gigi and Bella's older sister (A half-sister, technically. Mohammed Hadid is father to the three girls who have different mothers), is a stylist and as of this season, a designer. We caught up with the eldest Hadid on the eve of New York Fashion Week at the launch of her capsule collection with Lou & Grey—. With the same the same crystal-blue eyes and statuesque posture as her magnificent sisters, Alana wowed us with the same affable manner— as her genetically-blessed squad. And while all the girls have distinct style, Alana's cool-girl casual look is the stuff Pinterest boards are made of.

Alana Hadid

Here, Alana talks with Glamour about design, personal style, and sisterhood:

Glamour: What's it like being a designer versus styling?
Alana Hadid: Because I've been styling, personal shopping, and doing stuff like that for a long time, I know my aesthetic and what works for other people. So, I'm so lucky to be working with such an insanely amazing design team, because if I want something changed, in less than an hour I have a mock-up in an hour. They're amazing. I'm just having so much fun with it.

Glamour:What are some of the key pieces in your Lou & Grey collection?
A.H.: I hate to be like this, but I'm really obsessed with everything. We're doing different iterations of this clutch that are hand-foiled; the bandanas are a must, and they're also coming in paisley. Even the sweatshirt, it has my nickname [Lanzybear] on it—it's kind of insane. It's the best terry.

Glamour: What are key pieces the the Hadid sisters will be wearing this spring?
A.H.: A choker, for sure (we have really long necks, so we love a choker); a bandana; a clutch bag, high-heeled boots; vintage jeans, and definitely a leather jacket. That's all you need in life, right?

Glamour: Do you girls talk style? What's it really like to be a Hadid sister?
A.H.: [Gigi and Bella] each have their own style and they're so on it, but I get a few text messages where they're like "What do you think of this?" We talk to each other every day, we have our sister chat and "I'll say ooh I love this" or they'll say, "I'm doing this, what to you think?" Sometimes, they'll be, like, "What shoes do I wear with this?" All sisters get to do that with each other but it's fun because we get to have a little more fun with it."

Alana Hadid x Lou & Grey, launches on Monday, February 22 and ranges from printed bandanas aptly-named "Posse" and "Sissy" for $32 to limited edition gold-foiled clutches for $98. Talk about squad goals.

Cutesy couple nicknames gave way to friendship monikers at some point over the last few years, and stars are embracing it with fashion and social media moments. Kendall Jenner's at the forefront of it all, showing off two tiny nameplate necklaces that honor close model pals Gigi Hadid and Cara Delevingne, and what might have felt scandalous in our middle-school years (wearing two friendship necklaces with two different girls?!) works in our squad-friendly world. Kendall's also particularly well poised to show double the BFF love—don't forget that this is a girl who grew up with four sisters.

Cara and Kendall have also shared their bestie status by wearing their nickname on t-shirts fueling rumors of a fashion collaboration. K's had more time to wear the CaKe necklace, with multiple sightings of the petite piece (including a few spottings at Paris Fashion Week last fall, as seen below).

So, what to do if you're part of a serious friend-affair that's at the jewelry stage? You can shop the same style the ladies are wearing (and the sterling silver option keeps the price right under $100). How to Wear a Skinny Black Choker: A Styling Guide From Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, and Squad

We've seen quite a few '90s fashion trends return in the past couple of seasons, but the choker (cue memories of Romy and Michelle, Drew Barrymore, et al) is one that hasn't really come back—until now. Thanks to some sartorially adept social media titans (cue Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, and Hailey Baldwin) the choker is officially back. The crew has styled skinny black chokers for day, night, and any other wardrobe situation you can imagine—and hey, we're inspired.

But first, do you remember these choker-clad moments?

Inspiration ready to be mined, from L to R: Drew Barrymore, Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino in Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, Natalie Portman in The Professional

OK, now that you've brushed up on your '90s fashion history, take a look at how it's done today:

The Casual Look

Intrigued by the look but a bit cautious about how to integrate it into your own closet? The gateway choker is super skinny, plain black and should be worn in the same way you would a 16-inch chain with a delicate charm. This isn't a statement-piece moment, but an everyday item that you could leave on for 24 hours. Study the casual looks from Kendall, Gigi, and Hailey, respectively, below.

The Formal Look

To dress it up for a formal event (or personal style that's more about heels than sneakers), look for a velvet variety. Kim Kardashian West has kept her necklace-of-choice free of embellishments, while Cara Delevingne added a heavy pendant for a cocktail-appropriate look.

Bonus Points

Once you've gotten comfortable with the look, consider switching it up like Gigi and adding the same style in a different shade. A noir necklace would have read aggressively with her otherwise all-white winter look; she switched it up by going with a snowy option.

The Dos and Don’ts of Pulling Off the Athleisure Fashion Trend

admin
266

OK, guys, deep breath. The athleisure trend isn't going anywhere—if anything, it's picking up steam for the year ahead.

Some might rejoice at this news: What? I get to wear my comfy gym clothes to brunch and even to drinks? Yahoo! There are others, however, that will shudder at the thought: Seriously, Glamour? You want me to wear my gym leggings on a date? Just, no.

But like all good things, this trend is best pulled off at a happy medium. The sportswear-meets-street wear blend is tricky, so when it comes to athleisure, it's all about balance. For instance, you can mix slouchy cashmere pants with a cropped jacket; add a sporty jacket to a work look; or slip into a pair of sneakers when headed out on a date. To get specific, let's turn to athleisure pros, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, and athleisure OG, Gwen Stefani to see the Dos and Don'ts of pulling it off.

The Dos and Don'ts of Pulling Off the Athleisure Fashion Trend
Do: Like Kendall Jenner, add a pair of crisp white ultra sporty kicks with a black mini dress and chic, tailored coat.
Don't: Wear ratty or beat up sneakers. It will tone down your overall polish.

The Dos and Don'ts of Pulling Off the Athleisure Fashion Trend
Do: Break up the traditional tracksuit, like Gwen Stefani, who paired her Adidas zip-up with skinny jeans and a plaid flannel shirt.
Don't: Go head-to-toe tracksuit. Because frankly, it's not 2001.

The Dos and Don'ts of Pulling Off the Athleisure Fashion Trend
Do: Dress up your cashmere sweatpants with a leather biker jacket and bright blue felt hat, like Cara Delevingne. It's a great look for traveling and casual days.
Don't: Wear this to an event or something special. It's a casual piece that can get you to brunch and back (and sure, some shopping in-between).

The Dos and Don'ts of Pulling Off the Athleisure Fashion Trend
Do: Dress it up, à la Hailey Baldwin, who added a dose of athleisure to her look by pairing a silk blouse, mini skirt, and heeled booties with a baseball jacket. This outfit works for a casual office environment or even a date night!
Don't: Wear anything too oversized. Baggy fitting pieces will end up looking messy.

The Dos and Don'ts of Pulling Off the Athleisure Fashion Trend
Do: Throw on a pair of booties with your track pants! We love how Gigi Hadid mixes track pants with a tailored coat and heeled ankle booties for a casual and sporty wintertime look.
Don't: Wear high-heels, pumps, or dressy sandals. This is about being chic and comfy, it's not about trying too hard.

Yolanda Foster has given the world a belated Christmas present by way of her Instagram, sharing a throwback snap of a toddler Gigi Hadid posing on the ski slopes of Aspen. The girl looks fierce in all her late '90s fabulousness, but while the brightly printed ski duds have mostly been replaced by Kardashian-approved monochromes, there's one stylistic choice we've seen grown-up Gigi rocking a lot recently.

Goofy, oversize ski pants and printed puffer aside, can you please zoom in on Gigi's accessories? The top model still wears glasses every now and then, but we're mostly interested in that skinny scarf she has tied tightly around the neck. The jaunty choker look was major in the '90s and, thanks to G and bestie Kendall Jenner, it's having a major resurgence as of late.

The smart dresser has also shown the world how to take the look into formal territory, finishing off a saucy black bra top and skirt with a coordinating choker at an after party following this year's American Music Awards.

With wintry weather around us now, it feels a little off to call the piece a legit scarf, but let's be real—that silky number she rocked back in her toddler days wasn't made for warmth either. Some things really do never change.

The Instagram share makes it obvious Gigi was hanging with her mom in Colorado over the holidays, but that's not all she got up to. Come see the adorable way she celebrated with sis Bella!

Anna Ewers Is The 2015 Model of the Year (NOT Kendall Jenner or Gigi Hadid!)

It was a big year for Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, but it wasn't officially their year. Models.com has announced its 2015 winners, and the woman taking home the top prize has absolutely nothing to do with a reality show. Ladies, it's time to get familiar with Anna Ewers.

After being discovered at age 16 while in Colombia as a foreign exchange student, the German model racked up a pretty impressive resume, claiming campaigns for Chanel, David Yurman, Marc Jacobs, Prada, and a whopping six for Alexander Wang. She lent her mug to Balenciaga too, working it in two separate fragrance campaigns.

Anna Ewers Is The 2015 Model of the Year (NOT Kendall Jenner or Gigi Hadid!)

If you're bummed Kendall and Gigi didn't end up on top, don't be. Gigi took first place in the reader's choice category for Model of the Year (Anna won in the industry category) and second place in the industry section. Miss Jenner was right behind her bestie when it came to fan votes, nabbing the runner's up spot there. Moreover, the girls claimed the number one and two spots in the social media category. That should come as no surprise, especially since we just found out that advertisers know exactly how much to value their Instagramming—they make up to $300,000 per post.

The awards, including picks for breakout and social media stars, are decided by 250+ votes from fashion industry insiders (thinks stylists, photographers, makeup artists, and more).

Gigi Hadid Is Working With Tommy Hilfiger on a Collection of Clothing, Shoes, and Accessories

Gigi Hadid is toying with the job of fashion designer, testing her skills by working with Tommy Hilfiger on a capsule collection, Gigi by Tommy Hilfiger, set to debut next fall. It sounds like it'll be perfectly plausible to make up an entire outfit with the range too: apparel, shoes, and accessories will all be on offer.

"I never thought I would be asked to design a capsule collection, so it still feels like a dream that Tommy approached me to collaborate," she told The Telegraph.

"We're creating a line called Gigi by Tommy Hilfiger, using her style, her sense, her social media presence as the top supermodel in the world today," Hilfiger told The New York Times after explaining that Hadid's initial signing as global ambassador was "a bit overused and not too exciting." The model's made recent headlines for defending her body type against internet haters, and the designer said her shape, more athletic than pin-thin runway stars of decades past, was a draw too. "She's not anorexic. She's a real woman."

Hadid seems thrilled about the gig and expanding her relationship with Hilfiger — she'll also star in the main, footwear, watch, and fragrance campaigns for fall 2016.

"I ended up staying an extra five hours the first day. I think they were surprised I was that into it," she said. In a moment of good-hearted sibling sniping, she also revealed that while she works hard in her chosen field, baby bro Anwar only entered the modeling game as a way to score new clothes.

We'll be excited to see what the collection shapes up to be. If all goes well, Miss Hadid might have just found an answer to what she wants to do post-catwalk. Enrolled in a criminal psychology track before giving herself over to her day job full-time, the beauty has famously quipped that there needs to be something on the horizon once modeling calms down.

"It's not just OK anymore to model until you're 25 and then stop and be a housewife," she said this spring. In the same interview she also hinted that a mega-partnership like this wasn't so far off in the future. "If you have a big fan base, companies want to work with you because that gives them a bigger fan base."

Now prepare to be amazed: This is what it looks like when the Kardashian family's stylist dresses Gigi Hadid.
